This past week I have observed that when the black beast is heating and expanding, the surround vibrates and is -- well, not really noisy, but damn annoying.

Obviously, rubber washers are out of the question. but what to do about this?

The surround just slides over the insert and kinda sits on top. Flimsy metal like most I suppose. It is too bad, because the 180cfm blower is nice and quiet, even on high. but that surround--arghaaaa.

Any ideas on how to solve this?

You could try stuffing some pieces of glass rope in the gap like they use on the door.

I have the same insert. I love the stove, minus the annoying vibrations you mentioned. I placed some rope gasket behind one corner of the surround and this appears to help considerably. I called my dealer and did not get any help.

It's still a great stove and definitely a keeper for me. It puts out a lot of heat with plenty of red coals in the morning.

Lose the surround............I like the look of inserts without it myself.

Thanks people--the rope gasket it is. Don`t know why I didn`t think of that. awesome advice!!

What, they don't sell duct tape in Canada? %-P Rick

Fer sure they do, though it may take some time to reach that isolated island he lives on. I'm sure Red Green would have a solution for sonny.
