I bought an RADVT propane . I was able to get it to work before putting it in my home. Now that its installed and hooked to a propane tank the pilot wont light. I have it open and am using a lighter(spark also sparks) . It seems there is no gas flow to the pilot. My other question is this is hooked to a B vent system through and old brick chimney with a proper liner and rather than trouble shooting and buying parts for this old system can I just put ventless gas logs in the thing and have the convenience of a remote and instant lighting.
 
Dumb questions first. Is there LP in your tank? All gascocks open? What is the gas pressure at the valve?
You CANNOT safely connect a DV unit to B-Vent. The unit will not run for long - if at all without combustion air, unless the glass is off. You will fill your home with Carbon Monoxide & you don’t want that.
Gas logs are also a bad idea. The stove is not designed for that.
 
I used the wrong term its direct vent . It has gas in the tank i verified that . I need to know how the pilot light valve works . Is it just a straight on and off flow so either the valve is defective or its clogged line . I used yellow tape on the threads . Thanks

It depends on which valve you have. If you have an SIT valve, then you need to turn the knob to the "Pilot" position and push it in and hold it while pressing the ignitor button. (Or lighting it with a lighter, if that is what you are doing)

If it is an electronic ignition valve, then it is more complicated but in any case, you should not be using tape on the pilot line fitting where it enters the valve.

its the SIT valve and I push it in. I had it all working before I moved it into my house so its a real puzzle to me. The tank is full but there is no gas coming out the pilot. Ive held it in for long periods. Is it possible the yellow tape is clogging something.

Also I took off the pilot hood and pushed a wire in it to make sure there was no blockage. I guess the next step is to figure out how take the valve off . Any idea where i can get a new valve? its an radvt
 
Is there gas TO the valve? Loosen the connection where the gas comes in, & if there’s fuel there you’ll hear it, then smell it.

Yes that was evident when i was leak testing it with soapy water. I guess I need to remove it again and double check. Just want to verify that the pilot light is all mechanical. I understand that to get the burner going involves the thermocouple but thats not the issue here its just getting the pilot to light.

Yes, the pilot is mechanical, when you have gas pressure coming into the valve, depressing(and keeping it depressed)the pilot knob allows gas to flow through the valve, through the pilot tubing, and out of the pilot orifice.
 
If the gas line was recently connected, the gas cock was opened, & you didn’t bleed the line to the valve, it could take a couple of minutes for the gas to get all the way thru the gas line, into & thru the valve & out the pilot assembly. The ID of the pilot tube is relatively tiny…
 
When you hold flame to the pilot can you see air push the flame?
Also the valve pIn screw, you can test pressure into the valve.
 
sorry Ive been away . So I disconnected the propane line and made sure it was all clear and gas flowing. Then I took carb cleaner and air down the pitot hole with the cap off. Still no luck. If i put a flame up to the hole cap off and push in and out on the valve I see a very slight almost imperceptible flicker in the lighter flame. What should I do now .
 
I took the line to the pilot off the valve and now I have to replace this orifice somehow . Where do I find this for the RADVT? is this the orifice you change to go to natural gas from propane. Its how the line connects to the valve assembly. Not sure if that line is clogged but im going to put carb cleaner in it and air to see if it comes out the other end
