In my opinion, the SuperStor Ultra is pretty hard to beat. Well insulated, stainless tank, cupronickel heat exchanger, lifetime warranty, relatively light weight to wrestle into place.

It depends on the water quality in your area. In some areas the glass lined out last stainless. In some areas the opposite. The local plumbers and wholesalers usually know what works in a particular area. Ask around.

Stainless hate excessive chlorine and many now have the water quality, including chloride level spec printed on a tag on the tank. Same with hardness level.

Hard water is tough on any tank, although indirects do better than a gas or LP fired tank as they do not have a "ball of fire" impinging on the metal.

I prefer a tank with a large diameter, smooth, not finned coil inside. These are less prone to hard water scaling.

The very best German stainless tanks have lifetime warranty and use a titanium stabilized stainless alloy. But you pay for two (or three) tanks on the front end :)

Triangle Tube is favored by many plumbers. Its a stainless tank-in-tank. No coil to foul/clogged with sediment/scale. But as mentioned Chlorinated water will do a number on stainless given enough time. That's when the ceramic coated tanks like Buderus do well. They have a annode however, so you have to check them for corrosion.

Marathon makes an indirect as well. Probably one of the best but expensive.

Thanks for the responses
