Mostly hardwood here but the cat says it's his playground, should I take it.

Never out alone, the cats like a dog follows us around and your correct if we left him outside some fox or coyote would get him.

looks like some nice ash trees in that forest.

I always go for the dead wood though.

Yes that is some punky birch plus those are Ash trees, I have some hard maple down up the hill to the right that I have to get to.
