Why are threads closed?

Was just reading Kathleen's post about her oil furnace and wood burning options, then realized I couldn't post because the post was closed. Why are posts closed? Cheers!

Sometimes threads that really need to be answered get lost in the shuffle as other threads which have been answered to death carry on to far-far away places.

If the dog is gonna die (or needs to) sometimes it's easier if they just quietly wander off somewhere.

I think they are trying to keep the forums from getting clogged with off topic info....I learned my lesson...keep the topics to burning burners!
