What do you think, basswood or ash. About ten feet from this is a healthy ash tree. This has been down for about one year.

Ash

Looks like Ash to me. How dense does it feel? Ash should not be too light.

I see ash too!

:gulp: I See Dead Ash!!!

Ash

I agree with the others, ash....

Id bet my ash its ash

Well I'd go with Ash too.

So get your ash out of there.

Ash . . . but as Flatbed said . . . pick up a split and see if it doesn't "feel" lighter than you think it should . . . if it feels like most other splits it's ash, if you pick it up and it seems too light for the size it's basswood. I accidentally cut down a basswood a couple winters ago thinking it was ash . . . as soon as I picked up the first round I realized my mistake.

Eye'd eat all the basswood in NYS if'n it weren't ash!

There goes Lee threatening to eat stuff again.

White ash grown in a semi shaded area within many other trees on a flat parcel of land with good drainage. Or thats my guess, anyhow.
