Ya, that's sort of what I thought even though I've never seen pignut hickory up close and personal.
 
Just looked up pignut in the book.....bark is no where near that ....I will try to take a pic

Winner winner chix dinner! Darn sure looks and acks like elm and as big as this one was to me I thought it was beech.
 
Had me "stumped" lol.I'm used to seeing Shagbark,Shellbark & occasionally Mockernut around here.Dont believe any Pignut around,though Bitternut (with smoothish bark) is scattered in a few places east of me.
