I was noodling up some oak rounds and realized that I aught to give the chain a little touch up. Well I thought that I had the appropriate file. So off to the hardware store I go. I noticed a tree company taking down some trees on my way to the store. On the way back I stopped and talked to the guys. They were more than happy to give me the wood. As a matter of fact they asked me to wait while they loaded the Beech onto their truck. Then 2 trucks followed me home (about 6 miles) and dumped in my yard.

Doesn't get any better then that, awesome score!

I am trying to get a few more Pics up but keep getting an error message.

I keep getting a "unable to receive your submission at this time" message when I try to submit more Pics.

Nice score, Beech has some high BTU's.

Here is another pic of the score. There is also some Maple in the mix ( at least I think the rest is maple....maybe another species as well)

Here is a pic of the ends of the Maple looking at my stacks. There is a stack of Oak beyond the last stack in the background that cannot be seen. The Oak that is split and piled was a score from another tree guy. The Oak rounds were 30"+. The split stack is now twice as high as in this picture.

Looks like some kind of White Oak leaves on that log?

Free...and delivered. You should run out and buy a lottery ticket!
Happy burning.

That's a Big Beech ya got there! haha :-P . And yes that log in the 2nd pic looks like oak. Least the leaves do...

Nice score

Well I did try to give the job boss some gas money for the trucks. He refused and said that I could give it to the guys if I wanted.
So I gave each driver a 20 spot. Just thought it the nice thing to do. Still I consider that free, $40 for what looks like it will split up to around 2 cords of wood.

An awesome score! And good job paying the guys!

Nice. Even came on their truck!!! Doesn't get much better than that. Did they bring beer and pizza too?

I'm sorry I had to:

Winner of the 2009 Hearth.com quote of the year is Wet1 with his:

"My mouth is watering just looking at that beech."

Congratulations!

Too funny...

DMX, you did a great thing and those guys will remember you for a long time. Congratulations.

I agree those leaves look like oak but that is probably just a broken branch that got caught on the log because it surely looks like ash to me.

Them's some big-ass rounds there, man! Always think that Beech looks like elephant skin...

The big ones seem to weigh as much as an elephant too...especially when its 90 out.

No kidding. I will definitely be a bringin' the splitter to the beech instead of the other way around.

Did you remember to give them your number in case they have wood to drop off in the future? (if not you are kicking yourself right now)

Oh yes I did give them my number. I need to give them a follow up call though. I think that I can still fit 6 or 8 cords on the hill.
