Old style heatilator (Type) fireplace questions...

It wouldn't be the first time I moved one or installed a lock box on one or installed one that wasn't connected to anything.

Back to the fireplace;
I figured out what these are, crane/pot hook mounts.


I was going to ask what this threaded hole in the side of the fire box was (ignore the nails and stuff I dug out of the packed ash dump chute). . .

but then I followed it . . .

And found this. . .

Kind of small for an auto-log feeder. . .so I'm guessing someone was setting it up for gas.

Yea. Gas logs. Is there a valve somewhere?

Nope, nothing, just 2.5' of open pipe between the fire box and wood box. . . well. . . it did have a bunch of ash in it, but I got all that out.

Perhaps just placed in there during construction for provision for future gas logs. Or its a fuse to turn the log storage into a secondary combustion chamber.
