...WIDESPREAD SNOWMELT AROUND SOUTHCENTRAL ALASKA RESULTING IN ELEVATED WATER LEVELS ON ALL AREA RIVERS... REASON FOR STATEMENT: WARM TEMPERATURES THIS WEEK HAVE CAUSED SOUTHCENTRAL RIVERS AND STREAMS TO BECOME SWOLLEN WITH SNOWMELT. A SIGNIFICANT SNOWPACK REMAINS IN THE UPPER ELEVATIONS DUE TO THE COOLER THAN NORMAL SPRING. Read more…

When hunting & hiking, I learned to cross creeks & streams early in the AM when the water is low. In late afternoon & evenings many glacier fed creeks & streams are much higher water with glacier melt, still cold, but allot higher :)
Our hottest day yet, 76° here
Lot of snow up there melting & allot more to melt (picture, 10 PM today

Dave...... You have some of the most breathtaking photos. Your view is amazing! ;)

On a side note, Picture at 10 pm! That looks like our 5pm!

Been in the 90's almsot all week! Coming close to 100° a couple times!!

Does the daytime/nighttime differences ever cause an issues (Cons)? Any pros?

My sister said it was pretty warm as of late . . . that's OK . . . as long as it isn't raining when I'm visiting! I was hoping to ride Boulder Trail though on an ATV and I think there may be some stream crossings there . . .

We don't get much sleep in the summer but make up for it in the winter :)
Cardboard, tin foil on the kids bedroom windows.
Long days not so much a problem but Dec & Jan without much daylight can get to you.

Pretty cool to compare Bend to Wasilla (no darkness):

Grrr. AK is taking our warmth. We just set a new record for the coldest 6/22 at 55F.

Sorry to hear that Bgreen, global warming & you set a new low temp ??
Short lived for us, tomorrow to be nice then cool with clouds:

The rest of the globe is warm, but for some reason not here.

I've never seen anything like this in twenty seven years here. Usually it starts getting dry in July but this year has been dry from the beginning. There has been a little rain within a few miles but at the house we haven't seen more than a trace in a couple of months. We are in the "D3- exceptional drought" region. I'm starting to worry about the effect on the trees if we don't get relief soon. On the plus side, it's great wood-drying weather. I wish I could be stacking more now but I've got some other stuff to do first. Humidities in the afternoon have been in the low 30s or high 20s...very uncommon for this time of year. I've got to put a roof on the house and it looks like I won't have to rush the job once I start...

Not shown here, but Monday 100, Tuesday 100. After that....?? This is another thing I've never seen before here, the extended run of 100+ days.

I just crossed this country twice and was amazed to find most of it very much wanting for rain. About the only places we found that looked like they've gotten rain was in MD. The rest of the country was dry. The only rain in two crossings of the country was a couple showers in WV. They were short lived.

On the other hand, the desert SW was cooler than normal (still 100 degrees) but Kansas was really brutal with both heat and wind.

Seeing those daily 100s temps makes me wilt. Is that normal for June? We are lush and green here and about 35 deg. Cooler

Heat is back on after today Was in the low 60s in the house this morning. Not sure what the high was but it's only 50* right now at my house. Windy/raining and just bringing the suck compared to that week of "summer" we got (I'm serious... that was probably it for summer!)

Decent wood processing weather though. I'm wrapping up 10 cords that I cut, split and hauled out to customers. Another 10 cords coming in soon, maybe I'll get some out of that! Have room for about 20 cords at the house now with the new wood racks I built, but only have about 3 right now.

You will finally get a break from burning, from the looks of your forecast. Normal highs here for the end of June are 88 or 89. We are about to give up on the garden but I think we have to water the blueberry and blackberry bushes if we don't want to lose them.

Here's the updated forecast; We might be setting some records over the next several days. I heard that it was 113 yesterday, somewhere in the plains. _g I would expect to see that in the Southwest, in Death Valley maybe...
Today's 106 probably won't even feel too bad, with a breeze and the humidity dipping to 18%. Will be a roaster out in the sun though, for sure.

This weather is out of control. No real rain in two months and the hottest temps in 25 years. I understand we had a similar summer in 1988 (I was 7 :)) and it got pretty bad. Most of the corn around me is DONE...a lot of crop insurance $ is going to be collected this year...

On the plus side, I haven't mowed my yard in a month...but I've more than made up for it in time spent watering trees, garden, and landscaping.

Any day now they should be cancelling all the forth of July fireworks because of the "extreme fire danger".

Weather channel said over 1000 "new record high temps" have been set in the lower 48 so far this year already.
None set here yet, ;hm
Sounds like; " The Winter that wasn't" is turning into "The Desert Summer" for many of yuns.

Woodystover, your low temps are higher than our high temps

They said '83 (before I arrived) was bad here. But that Summer followed the pattern of others I've seen here; Adequate rain earlier in the year, with the drought starting in June or July. This year went from sparse rain early to no rain for months now. The corn is tasseling and silking already so unless a bunch of rain comes right now, it doesn't look good. Get ready for food prices to take off; Much of the country is in a similar situation and improvement in the near term appears unlikely. o_O

I wouldn't mind that at all...less chance of somebody burning our woods down.

Thermometer in the truck read 109 on the way back from work.

Dont know what the actual high was today (just gettin home from Sons baseball game). But it had to break 100°… Its 90° now at 9:00 p.m..... Ugh... Its HOT! !!2012-06-28_20-52-52_38.jpg
