Haven't seen him here in a while and wonder if anyone knows how he is coming with his Garn installation up there in the Rockies.
What is MgO?I have decided to focus on completing this project after a long eventful summer.
We have snow on the peaks, I have a month before it gets seriously cold.
I have run the electrics, the plumbing side is completed and filled. The building is basically weather-tight but will probably take me a week to finish properly, I am taking a day off tomorrow even though it will include a supply run to HD.
I just started working on the steel stud wall fronting out the Boilers. I have sheets of 1/2 inch MgO instead of drywall and am torn what to do. This is hard stuff and non bendable but abuse resistant. Instead of trying to cut it so it will go behind the flange around the loading door I think it will cut it flush, looking at pictures of other installs this seems to be what other people do. I can put some scrap behind the flange so it can fill/caulk any small gaps.
Also just wondering how to finish the back, there are some valves and a pump that I should allow access to so i think I will put 4 inch insulation on the back, insulate the pipes but otherwise allow access.
That's a great idea. I've seen that material used for tile work I believe,Magnesium Oxide Board, sort of like non floppy cement board. I have some 8x4 sheets left over to face the Garns.
Not much gunk in mine after initial fill, good thing I'd never fit through that manhole.Well I re read the Garn instruction and trawled through photographs of other installs and there did not seem to be 2 insulated the same way.
I have been working on the building today as it is such a nice day, I have wrapped the Garns in mineral wool, I have a load of leftover fiberglass insulation that I will use to finish the gaps. That still leaves the supply pipes to be insulated. I was going to construct a wood walkway to get to the back at the wall height level, and more easily access the hatch on top.
Electric supply connected nearby. I need to get some extension pipe so that the drain valve will be forward of the front face. Probably need to sit down, re read everything and make sure I have not missed anything.
I was thinking of an initial tank wash, drain and then fill up and do the cleaner, drain and then the final fill and treatment. Now it seems you need to run the circulator pump and I am not sure I want to do that first as there may be all sorts of gunk accumulated in the tanks, so see if I can flush most of it out first and then start properly.
