Hello

The old Breckwell P2000 is a great stove. The one I am working on was made July 1996. Those old dingy brass cowel rods in the upper and lower grills just do not cut the mustard these days! I tried getting the Nickel Cowl rods from Breckwell but, that failed because they were not available anymore. Also solid nickel rounds at $50 per pound and then putting an engineered polished finish for another $200 for a total of $400 and a new Nickel door for $640 is just too much for my poor old stove!

So I decided to paint the door black along with the stove and get some nice solid stainless steel rounds milled that I can shine up! I had to get the stainless steel rods not the cold rolled steel rods for $25 for a better look.

Has anyone done this?

The correct term is "dowel".

And those brass rods and window surround would shine up just perfect with a little Brasso, a rag, and some elbow grease. The stainless is a step down, IMO.

Hi Imacman

Dowels is a term used for wood products and rounds is a term for metal products. However Breckwell calls them cowl rods! LOL :) The Breckwell brass rods are actually aluminum rods with a brass coating. Costs less to make! LOL They would shine up better, I agree. Yes I know your preference is the richer brass and gold look. It is a good style. It does seem that the new look of nickel or steel on black is more neutral so it would appeal to more buyers and match more decors. So that is why I did it and now since it is more sales worthy it is worth more $$ in my pocket. LOL

The reflection of the dirty garage on the window does not help the picture! I need to set it up in the workshop with a fire! LOL

These are solid stainless steel, all I had to do was grind off the burrs from the end cuts and shine the mill finish up with a little stainless steel polish!

I have a buyer already now and that is what his wife wants!

So it does look much newer! I just used a little hi temp clear STICKem to keep them from sliding out!

Wow, great job! My insert is basically the same stove just 2 years newer.

Hi Imacman

Not entirely correct. I taught woodworking for 31 yrs, and know what a wood dowel rod is, but to clear this up, Wikipedia has this definition: "A dowel is a solid cylindrical rod, usually made of wood, plastic, or metal."

If Breckwell lists "cowel" rods, I suggest that they had a typo in the manual.

Looks like a hotrodder stove now! ;)

Hey Don, Does it still have the 250 CFM blower? Or did they swap it out for the later 140 CFM and adapter plate. I need the numbers off the 250 CFM blower if its still in it.

Nice improvement. I agree the gold color looks dated where the silver is more conventional looking. Good luck in getting your selling price.

Yeah. That seems a little steep. You can get a brand new stove for less than that :(

Looks good though Don. :)

What is steep?

Here are the final pics. :)

Wow that stove cranks out some serious heat! ! ! !

Hello

Well due to the stove's new good looks, it flew out of here tonight! I will miss it. :-( I only fired it up once to make sure it still worked well!
