4 new basement windows! The last 70yo single pane beast was beaten out with a sledge hammer this morning and the new one has been installed and sealed. I now have basement ventilation when I want it and less heat loss when I want that!
Its interesting and widely overlooked but sealing holes in the basement can decrease losses elsewhere. Think stack effect.
Something else to consider is to recheck radon levels after basement sealing since air dilution and air pressure will decrease.
By the time next winter comes along I expect to have my 2nd floor sealed down to the floor boards and I'll finish off sealing the ground floor also. The basement will lag, and I wasn't planning on tackling it until I had the living areas finished, but I couldn't blame the really cold floors on anything other than the windows. Good idea on the radon. I don't think it's an issue here, but tests are cheap.
