Well, I been patiently waiting for a trailer to come my way so I took it. Clean title, 3100lb load cap. it's a 1983, frames, leaf springs, wheel bearings and axle in "very good shape".

Let's see_g, I have 34 years as a welder and 20+ as a military engineer, I think we can make it a nice scrounging trailer, More to follow.

Now I just got to cut up this dam boat and dispose of it:rolleyes: The price we pay......

Wood or trailers are never free!

Might be long enough to add an axle.
Looks to have been loaded heavy, slightly bowed from the hitch to the wheels.
Maybe the boat filled with water.

Looks like a fun project,
starting out free $$ is real good!

put it in the free section on CL. Maybe you can find someone in need of a project.
Scols, the hull is cracked and split in various places, water laid in it for "YEARS" and froze, it's a shame but it is complete junk!, I'll break out the sawzaw and a sixpack;)..... should have it cut up in a few hours today.

I've seen more than one boat on top of the local land fill pile. Back up to the top, tie it to something buried and drive home.

Nice score - I have just recently aquired a dual axle trailer with 5G GVW stamped on the tongue. It is just the frame, axles with decent rubber and a nice spare. Pretty solid but not super wide(it was a camper I think)

Needless to say it will get some beefing up, rails and ramps to load quads from the side and the rear with a wood deck. Should become a decent hauler for wood and toys.

Nice score
Thanks Bob, I got pictures coming shortly, Just got the boat cut up. I did get a clean title and it was rated at 3100lbs. My guess is "depending on the wood" I should get a full cord weight wise on her. I'm only going to use it for scrounging. My truck isn't brand new but I don't want to beat it up any more than I have. "still paying on it" like most of us.

GOING, GOING, gone!... Trailer at her new home. Yes, mickey mouse tire on other side, the one on there was so dry rotted it went flat. Oh well, now the work begins:cool: more to come!

What did you use to cut it up? Here on the Island old boats become "Chainsaw fodder". We pull out everything we can sell as scrap or salvageable (engines, pumps, fittings, wires, etc) then the guys get a dumpster and go at it with an old chainsaw. Both wood & fiberglass hulls go pretty fast. The guys wear breathing apparatus, some of the dust is toxic.

Be interesting to see how you build the trailer from there. Post pics

Sawzaw and those milwalkee AX blades. They eat right through the fiber glass. Our local landfill wouldn't take it whole, but they said cut it up and bring it in load at a time they would take it.
4 loads to the dump, my truck only has the six foot bed thats why I wanted the trailer. After measuring last night, I can make a box on her 10' X 6' That should do me well. I have the whole summer to get her done and scrounge the metal for the project.

I'll post pic's as I go along!

If nothing else, doing it out in the front street like that, you gave the neighbors something to talk about. "Did you see what Dave did to his new boat?"

Dave-

Look into aluminum grate as the decking for the trailer. A friend of mine worked at a facility in the Brunswick area that manufactured staircases and catwalks out of that stuff. It was available in a couple sizes of base material which basically determines the thickness as it alters the load bearing. I used 3/4 and placed in on a trailer in lieu of treated plywood. The stuff is light, strong and sheds debris/dirt. Never have to sweep up again, and never replace the floor. One of those deals where you may pay more now, but save later. If you are interested, pm me and I will find the name of the business. Can get a contact for you too.

Actually, I chopped it up in front of the guy's house who gave it to me. He didn't care, and "YES" I did get some looks and comments. I was to afraid to tow that thing the way it was, water logged and falling apart. I didn't have to go far and one of the tires went flat when we pulled it from his yard.
One old fella came by and said "I'm glad to see that dam thing go" been looking at that for years! I found that amusing, I think I did him a favor:)

Good thought!, I'll see how the $$ goes. I got to do this a little at a time. grating is much lighter than pressure treated. I have some "good friends" in the metal business, might get a hook up...;)

swagler, I'll do a step by step pictures when I get close to having her done. Today after work I started cutting off "junk" thats not needed and go to bare frame. After that I'll build the basic box that will sit on the frames and go from there.
After taking more measurements today, the actual box will be 6' x 9' . I'm also going to move the axle about 1 foot foward to balance it better. I'll keep you posted:cool:
