For some reason the fireplace is now shooting fire out of the screen about 3" into the living room. If you look at the picture with the red circle on it, you will see where the fire is pushing through the sand below the stone logs. I pushed sand back into this trough but when I turned on the fireplace again, that fix lasted for about 15 minutes.

Remove all the logs so you have access to the burner & set the logs on a piece of newspaper to keep the soot contained...
Vacuum ALL the sand out & inspect the burner to make sure the tube hasn't been compromised. If there is any doubt, take a pic of the burner in the area where you're getting the flames, & post it here. If it's OK, go to your hearth shop & get a couple of bags of new sand & some embers & get instructions on how the sand & embers need to be placed. Take a dry paint brush & use it to clean the soot from the logs prior to setting everything back in place...
