I have expandable stovepipe going between the stove and the ceiling box. I had to pull the pipe out to clean the chimney a few weeks ago. In the process I cleaned the stovepipe and went to reinstall it. The problem is that the expandable stovepipe is stuck and won't move out to the length I need.

Here is what I have done so far trying to get it unstuck.

1. Lubed the joint
2. Large man on either side twisting and pulling - DIDN'T BUDGE
3. Strap wrench on either side twisting - MOVED 1/16 inch
4. Hammer and metal pipe hitting on the inside lip of the stovepipe - MOVED inch and stopped
5. Heated outer pipe to expand it and then used a strap wrench on either end and hammers to try and pull the pipes apart - DIDN'T BUDGE

I'm now looking online for a different style of pipe. I really don't want to spend another $75 or $100 on new expandable stovepipe. Anyone else had this problem and figured out how to get the two pipes separated?

Push it back together, you're all jammed up and forcing it farther won't loosen it. Pay attention to the seams.

What brand of pipe is it? I'm guessing super-vent? From Menards or other big box store.
I have had a terrible time with that stuff!

My DuraVent slip pipes both work just fine. Maybe toss the one you got, and buy better?

Sometimes the DVL also has some issues with the slips. It's nice stuff. But, sometimes the inner and outer walls of the slips are attached slightly crooked, so the further you push the slip in the tighter it gets. It can be corrected with a little persuasion. AKA, a hammer and a block of wood! If you tap on the female end where the 2 pieces are attached it can be straightened.

It is the pipe that came with the Progress Hybrid from Woodstock. I'm not sure who their manufacturer is.
