DVL to Support Box - Normal or needs attention?

Highbeam, you got me too. I have been assuming the air space between the double walls of the DVL pipe is continuous within each pipe section and between the pipe sections. I have a spare (extra) length of DVL pipe, I'll check it out today. I've finished installation of the stove pipe, so don't especially want to take it apart ...

greythorn3, your picture shows a DuraVent 6DVL-ADT #8675 (I think), while I am using a 6DVL-ADC #8678. DuraVent says both of these can be used with Duratech, Duraplus, Duraplus HTC, and Duraliner chimney systems. The 8675 connects only DVL double wall stove pipe, while DuraVent says the 8678 can connect both DVL and DuraBlack single wall stove pipe. The inner sleeve of your adapter (8675) is double wall, and looks like it would serve to continue the DVL double wall air space from the lower DVL pipe at least up to the bottom of the support box. i.e. the 8675 would not allow cresote/soot to drip/fall into the double wall air space while the 8678 appears to allow it.

webby365, I am thinking the same as you ... the air between the DVL double walls couldn't possibly (by design) be allowed to enter the center of the pipe and mix into the stove's exhaust stream. Not only that, but allow cresote/soot down into the lower double wall air space. But it certainly seems true. The stove pipe end of the 6DVL-ADC #8678 adapter is a single wall sleeve that fits snugly inside the outer sheet metal "skin" of the connecting DVL stove pipe, leaving the stove pipe's air space between its double walls visible by looking down through the adapter.

Like begreen said ... maybe I should call the DuraVent tech support ... sigh.

DuraVent has good tech support. I highly doubt there is any air leakage, that would dilute the flue gases and cool them down which is undesirable. However, if there is a defect in your pipe you want to discuss it with DuraVent right away. We may not be able to tell that over the internet.

That... doesn't sound right. Got a picture? Or draw a picture?

I just pulled out my -ADC and some DVL. The ADC should fit within the innermost wall of the DVL, leaving the air passage between the DVL walls outside of the -ADC.

With any luck my ADT will show up tomorrow.
