pellet stove pets

I'm sure other folks on here have pets who know where to hang out when it's cold. Here's a 'riders on the storm litter' of rescued kittens - Blizzard, Drizzle, Sleet, Hail,and Misty. They were found wandering in an alley during a recent New England Nor'easter and were brought in to our local humane society shelter, that we are fostering until they are ready for adoption.

No surprise, this is where they like to hang out in our Maine farmhouse, 'helping me out of my mind' when I clean it !

I have a Papillon that's just over a year old, he likes to watch me clean the stove a fill it with pellets. He will lay on the floor about 4 - 5 feet away and just watch until I am done.

First off How great of you to help those little cuties. Yes our cat Miella ( I call her Fugly) sleeps in front of the stove. One day will post a pic of her and you will see why!

mine doesn't sleep there but he does sit on it sometimes also a rescue was left in a barn with another cat near the shelter sealed up in a box last Dercember.. that's him in the dryer in my avatar

Looks like our Tigger cat. He loves the dryer too. Rescued him about five years back.

Hey Tim,

Bulldogs are indeed unique in their 'olfactory output'. A buddy of mine has one - man, that dog's breath is as bad as his farts!! You don't know which end you're petting !!

The worst part is that they make no sound whatsoever. At least with a toot you have a chance to vacate the room or open a window. It smells so bad sometimes I have to go check and see if he crapped up my nose when I wasnt looking.

Love the "Riders on the Storm"! You'll miss them when they are rehomed... Glad to see a bunch of folks out there taking care of rescues. We've never actually purchased a pet but we've had some wonderful rescues. Not too impressed with a couple of them at the moment though ... GSD pulled loose on my daughter today following a bunny - on her return, the retractable lead was diminished to a cord With the cold weather, the two male cats get on each others nerves ... at 3 AM.

The occupant of the stove position seems to rotate during the day...

Condolences on your loss, brother. As the heart-rending 'Rainbow Bridge' poem ends - "gone from your life, but never absent from your heart".

Having fostered a couple hundred kittens and pregnant mom cats as volunteers for our local shelter over the last 6 years, they've given us more unconditional love and affection than we could ever hope for. We adopted 3 of them - 'foster fails', as they're affectionately known as, that we couldn't live without.

Rescued pets seem to somehow know when they've been taken out of a horrible situation and given the care and affection that they seem to especially appreciate and thrive on in their 'furever home'.

Agree on the stove rotation for sure! Will post more as they deign to sleep on it. I have lots of stories I'll post later. Time to hit the rack. Night all. Stay warm!

Ha ha I hear you there we have a 11 yo English bully and he's the same way.he likes to lay in front of the stove until bed time then he wants to hog the bed of course

I discovered after getting all our pets that I'm allergic to them all. Its for that reason they are not allowed on furniture or even in the bedroom.

We have three now 10 YO cats we call the triplets that we picked up at the local pond. Somebody dumped them there as kittens , they were running around in the road at the edge of the woods. We drove by first and went and ate supper. My wife was looking afar. I said you are thinking of those kittens aren't you ? She shook her head yes and said no mother cat would leave her young like that if they were Ferrel.. So we drove back now getting dark and there they were still running around.. So two were easy, although one kept running up a tree and the third one down the road. The tree hugger was in reach so now two in the car. To get the runner ( she was not leaving without it) my wife laid on the ground and it eventually came near enough my wife grabbed her by the leg and she was in the car. Off we went, the grey one rode on my shoulders all the way home, he still goes up there now and then to this day and he is a big guy. We had a big adult male at home and we didn't how that would go so we put the kittens in a carrier overnight. The male hissed at them and then got the idea, hey these guys are pretty small. In the morning he took each one from the carrier and brought them up stairs to his spot and they suckled off Mr mom for weeks. THey were big enough to eat though so that wasn't a problem.

We have a petite adult female tuxedo, she went into depression but we eventually coaxed her back. She never will totally accept these three but it's as close as it can get. She is 20 YO now so we won't have her much longer. She was a stray also. My wife kept having this thought now 20 years ago, what if I find a kitten at work today. I must find this kitten at work today etc. She went off to her clients house and mid shift kept hearing this little meow. She went outside, there was a tall grassy area near by and here was this little tiny kitten there all by itself. She watched during her shift, no mother ever came back and this was a baby with eyes barely open. She brought it home and fed it from an eye dropper and that cat is the character of the house till this day. Deathly fears going outside, you walk by the door holding her and she digs her claws into you. Her name is Sadie, when Sadie grew big enough to eat food on her own she would come to the food dish and stand in it. We had two full sized cats at the time now passed on, but here was this tiny cat standing in the food dish fending off the adults. She squawked so loud and obnoxiously till she ate they didn't stay near her.

Anyway, these guys all take their stations around the stove. We have 5 cats.

Wife's GF found a one-day-old Tuxedo kitten in her pasture. Brought it to her. Raised it on an eye dropper. Used to carry it around in our sweatshirts. Slept in our bookcase headboard. Had a GSD rescue. Dog went over and picked it up. Thought it was the end but all he did was carry it around in his mouth. To the day that cat died at 10 the dog would groom the cat. Cat would sit there looking disgusted, all covered with dog spit.
