Not quite 80's for us but mid 70's. We've only had one small frost in low areas. Still cutting all my landscaping biz like it's may! And two weeks behind on peak color for leaves. Im loving it. Looking forward to burning, but hope a warm fall isn't an omen for a brutal winter. At least for snow.

Feeling the Heat
One mild frost here, but then it was right back in the 80s. A storm front just blew through and cooled things down but we should be back in the 70s by mid-week. At least the forecast looks more seasonable after that.
On a side note, a question for the gang here. When is your "last leaf" date on deciduous trees, and has it changed? I remember 20+ years ago that Veterans Day (11/11) was the day when it was safe to finish my raking, but over the last decade it's been closer to Thanksgiving and in a couple of recent years I've had to wait until early December. Anyone else notice a similar trend?

Above 45 degrees north, here. One real frost. Maybe some touches here and there. Very frequently, we'd have had substantial snowfall at this point but have seen flurries just once. It's might scary if you ask me.

One very mild frost here but today got up in the 80s in Virginia. Warmest October I can remember here - only burned a few chunks and uglies from the campfire pile. No serious fires yet at all.

Jay we did two weeks of 24/7 thus far. 70's yesterday. lol (40 deg north near Chicago)
Good chance for a full cleaning and reinspection before going full bore next 5 months.
Interesting preseaon here too. No frost yet and we're going into November with mosquitoes still flying around!

Yes. I've noticed it over 50 years of being alive. Other than 2009, (the cold summer) it seems to get later indeed.
We used to have raked piles on Trick or Treat night. The main drop would follow over the next week or two.
As of the last decade or so it's later and they all seem to come down closer to simultaneously. Obviously we all
have that one or two weird trees that drop first regardless every single year. Besides that the color and falloff seem
to be pushing a bit later and later over time. Climate shift from woodstovers likely. lol

Two years ago I had a ton of leaves on the ground at this point. I think it has more to do with perfect dropping conditions(heavy frost followed by heavy wind).
I thought I was for sure putting the mower up for winter! That doesn't look to be the case. Might have to take time out of deer season in a few weeks to mow the lawn!

2013 we had snow over leaves Thanksgiving. Nice matted mess after the meltoff. lol

Times will be changing in a very short time, The warmer weather with short periods of cold will be flip flopping by mid November, regions from the ohio valley and points east will see the biggest change, there might be the s-n-o-w word to come later in the month. Judging by the Siberian snow cover, and now northern Canada's snow cover, I would expect that once the cold comes, it should stick around.
Yeah, you gotta wonder if the globe will warm or if we are going into a mini ice age?? Flip a coin, I say, it's too complex for them to figure out.
Yep, kinda late this year. Still a lot of green here. White Ash will be done soon. Maples are dropping pretty fast now. Hickories are coming down, too. Bringing up the rear will be the Oaks. We are usually about done with leaves a little after Thanksgiving but I bet it's later this year.
No first frost yet here either. I can remember Halloweens with snow on the ground. Last night I took the kids trick or treating in flip flops and short sleeves. Today, 1st of Nov, we broke a record at 85degrees for the warmest day on record for Nov... I'm itching for that first fire, but will enjoy the Indian Summer while I have it.
Yeah, we gotta use this warm weather for something productive...like loafing on internet forums.

What? That's crazy, you being north of me. Peak color this week in central Ohio. Due to the weather there going at diff stages. We still have some green but 25% have dropped and most are full color. but that's a good 2-3 weeks behind for us. Are normally later than us?

We're just late this year with the warm September evenings. It's averaged to much warmer than normal.
A few trees are showing this summer's age, but are hanging onto a large amount of greenery. Two of our 42 trees
have gone yellow too.
Our usual pattern starts heavy duty after the first frost, which has not arrived yet. I'll shoot a few pics after work.
Weird for 40 deg N latitude.
Question: Is it the shorter sunlight, the cooler temps, or a frost that activates the decline cycle
of the leaves? Two weeks ago it still looked like summer from the foliage.

I was nothing short of dead wrong or lying.
We're at about 50% color and 10% dropped. Took mental notes on my 11 mile commute.
I'm sorry for not evaluating for a good few days.
Indiana has your pattern too. Close to Lake Michigan it retards a bit.
The warmer water has a moderating effect from what I've seen in the last
5 years since moving closer to the shore from where I spent the first 45 years.
In "normal" weather patterns we get your weather 5-10 hours before you and the climate
is close to identical other than those arctic blasters that drop down thru Alberta then down
the big lake. ("Alberta Clipper System" when ya hear the forecaster say that phrase.) I think
you guys get a fair share of those zero degree winds too a coupla weeks per year.
Our three large maples began letting go full speed while I was at work today. lol
Blew n' mulched yesterday and leaves all over the grass in places. The purple-leaved maple is holding
it's leaves a bit better than the other big two. (I'm still learning subspecies) Yellows abound the ground.
Rain coming and time to fire up frankentractor/ frankenmulcher. I'm allergic to raking.

Two hard frosts here. Burned constantly last week. Off for a few warm days. But I think it will pick up next week. Still waiting for "lake effect "!!

Back to warmth today here in the mid-Atlantic, but not as warm as last weekend. It was cool enough by the time I got home to split some pine. Tomorrow should be the last of the unseasonable weather for a while. Tulip poplars are almost bare; hickories are in full color and oaks are still mostly green. We had one frost last week but it was hit or miss.
