Question about stove adapter

The stove adapter on my stove is leaking smoke from inbetween the two layers. The end of the adapter on the outer wall is not sealed to the inner wall. Can it be silicones?

Sure. RTV will work, but you can also see if aluminum tape will seal it.
First, tho, you might want to check to see if the adapter has silicone on the end where it's attached to the stove. That may be where the smoke is getting between the inner & outer pipes...

I ended up with the silicone and while my pipes were apart I sealed all the joints in the house as well. Hopefully that does the trick. My guess is it was leaking since installed. But put n oak on it this year so then it wasn't sucking the smoke in.

The smoke that was coming out of the pipe was being sucked in by the combustion blower. Now that I have an oak,it was just seeping into the room.

What brand of stove do you have? If it is a Harman, there is an adapter which will give you a very tight fit for Duravent.

It's a p43 with ventis Olympia piping. It's working fine now though after the fix.

Well I am one of the buttheads here,so will give you my 2 cents worth.Each section of pipe has to be sealed,inner liner and outer liner separate.If you have to put tape on the outer section,the real problem is in the inner section(I have not seen this addressed much,shame on you guys!)HOWEVER fixing a small (smoke?)leak with silicone or good metal tape is?appears to be acceptable,as flu temps are so low in a good solid fuel burner,properly(?) installed.Any dual pipe that needs an outside sealant has an internal problem/but as flu temps are low standard repairsareacceptable.As far as ventis/olympia,poor website,no techinal info availible,not a manafacturer,selling someone elses product under their name,would never buy something like that "knowingliny".However the p43-nice.

Olympia chimney supply sells quality pipe, I know they manufacture all their wood stove pipe and I'm almost certain they manufacture all their pellet pipe too. they are a good company, if you want details as far as technical information not found in their faq or installation guides you can contact them or a dealer and ask away.

The company I use to work for, for 6 years, my boss at the time toured the plant, saw their manufacturing. He was more than impressed. I installed many many stoves using their pipe. I called their phone line who has all CSIA reps to answer and got my technical questions answered every time. They only sell to dealers and not to the general public, so that skews how they set up their website. To most of those in the industry they have a good name, I hope this clarifies my point of view.

O.K. Whatever.The company you are promoting has never built pellet stove pipe,GUESS what,they are not even a manafacturing company,they only resell duravent products.Getting tired of this,it is all on the net,would you people please research this?

Back to the OPs question. I have a similar situation. My newly installed P43 is leaking between the stove adapter and a 6 inch, and the 6 inch and a 1 foot section inside the house. It is the Silicon duravent that supposedly doesn't need additional sealing. I used rvt on the adapter and it seals great.
I never would have noticed the faint trickle of smoke if I didn't read this forum. I got behind the stove with a flashlight in start up and noticed a small amount coming from those two joints.

Recommendations? The pipe claims to not need to be sealed. And I don't want to use tape as I have painted the pipe.

Even with the new duravent I think they say you "may" have to put sealer on the edge when installing pipe,their instructions on website show this.Also is a good idea to replace the gaskets whenever it has been taken apart.Also make sure screws are not too long,serviced 2 stoves that had too long screws through pipe and it pushes the inner liner inwards and allows smoke to bleed into outer liner.

I took it apart and siliconed the joints. There was still a small amount coming from the last joint, so I painted some tape and sealed with that. No more leaks!
