Central MA
We had a Regency 1100 installed end of October. It is an addition to the house and we just light it at night to get the chill out of the room, however everytime we light it we get smoke in the room. We start with paper and small pieces of wood and the smoke just backs up into the house we have tried it with the door open to get it started and we have closed the door which makes more smoke, please tell us what we are doing wrong? It was professionally installed and the flue thing on the side if fully open when we light it, once it is going runs just great it just startup.

Thanks for any help

Are you warming the chimney first? When going from cold I always take three or four pieces of lit paper and hold them up to the chimney BEFORE starting the Supercedar and the wood. This will get the draft going and create the suction to get the smoke up and out.

Hey central MA burner... it sounds like a cold liner for starters. Cold air sinks and until the liner is warm it has a hard time moving smoke up. Do you have a chimney cap? How tall is your chimney? Interior chimney/exterior?

You may want to try a firebrick or other starter alone at first to establish the draft. These starters don't smoke and it may be enough to warm up the liner.

Ok my husband agrees with you all it is always a cold start for us like I said it is in a 300 sq ft addition and the stove is the only source of heat in the room so the room is warm during the day and gets cold around 6 so we light the stove to answer the questions on pipe inside is 6 ft of pipe straight up through the roof and other 8 ft above the roof. But the cold start does make sense to us so we will try warming the stove pipe tomorrow night and let you guys know how that goes. Thanks for the replys it's nice to have people to turn to for help or a second opinion.
