Found another stray, it was calling me, couldn't pass it up. Guess the make/model. I don't know the age because the MFR sticker is too burnt to read.

Here is a pic of the firebox. It is missing the steel "brick" liner.

Door gasket needs immediate replacement.

And, look at the burn pot liner. Massive hole! How'd it ever work like that?

Ash buildup not too bad.

Pellets in the exhaust port (shown with damper wide open). Must have had a lot of pellets flying around because of the hole in the burn pot liner?

Fishing with the magnet-on-a-stick caught some BBs in the auger. Good fishing day-- Ended up catching quite a few!

This family had a lot of kids and dogs!

Rear view. The entire pan was coated with a dried dirt "cake" material. Like a doghair/dust/rust recipe that was wet at one time. Otherwise, not too dusty back there.

Convection fan squirrelcage was socked in, even had some pellets in its vanes!

Looks like my EF2 I bought last summer for $50.... Clean her up and get it going, awesome stove.

Yep, EF2i FS (fireplace insert), and the ignitor appears to heat up, but have not been able to really test it because of the door gasket and burn pot liner. The local HW store has bulk 1/2" gasket rope for the door gasket repair.

Anybody know if the steel firebrick is important? And anybody have a tip on where to get replacement burn pot liner? Thanks in advance.

Hello

Looks like the EF-2i that I found and fixed up!

The Steel Firebrick is not needed but sure makes it look nicer!

If your call up Mountain View Hearth Products and ask for the Techie's discount they will knock off 10%
You still should shop around in case it is Alot cheaper somewhere else.

Hello

One Question?

Please let me know if the Ignitor makes alot of smoke before it fires up. Mine did and I think that is because the Ignitor is not as close to the burn pot as it could be. I heard you can get a longer ignitor to screw in.

Also let us know if the cleaning rod goes in and out ok. Mine was really sticking and needed a special fix!
See https://www.hearth.com/econtent/index.php/forums/viewthread/80566/

Thanks

I can check the startup smoke when I get to that point. How long does yours smoke for? The ignitor sets deep in the tube.

The cleaning rod seems to work as smooth as any other one I have tried, that scrapes more than 3 tubes at once.

Temporarily patched the hole in the burn pot liner with a square of sheet steel to do some testing.

Auger was jammed, no surprise with all the BBs and old pellets I pulled out of it. Dismantled and removed the auger, hit it with a wire brush, cleaned the bronze bushings, buttoned it back up and now it works smoothly.

The ignitor works, glows red, but seems anemic. Took about 20-30 minutes to ignite the handful of pellets I placed in the burn pot. Sorry was not able to note the quantity of smoke it generated overall, but no smoke for the first 15-20 minutes of it trying to ignite the pellets. Once it generated flame it did produce smoke until the flame grew to a healthy size. Don2222, looking in from the back, the ignitor is clamped as far forward into the burn pot as it can go, still far from the pot. You would need to get a longer ignitor to have the tip closer to the burn pot.

The (140*?) N/O snapdisk on the exhaust housing, which energizes the control panel green light and allows switching from manual to auto seems weak also. Took a loooong time for the green light to come on. Switching from manual to auto before that green light, of course, shut down the combustion fan. I IR'd the temp of the housing all around the snapdisk, and was seeing 140 - 160*F but the snapdisk still had not snapped closed. Once it finally did, I had to keep a strong fire, or else it would snap open again.

Convection fan control has no effect, other than off and on. No speed variation.

Hello

Nice pic. We need another pic of it burning too!

One other thing to check is the On time Duration of the Auger. It should be 3 seconds so you get enough pellets into the burn pot to have a good high healthy flame. I learned that the SAE 841 Impregnated Brass bushing looses it's lubrication after a few years because the heat draws out the impregnated oil.

Enviro sells the bushing separate or with the back plate. The back plate with the bushing is a snap to install.

About the slow ignition, there may be blockage around the igniter inside of the tube or one of the sections is not working.

You might want to clean the surface the POF is against along with the area behind it inside the housing. Caked on ash (insulation) there will require that the temperature get well above the turn on temperature before the snap disc actually has 140 on it.

Thanks for the info.

I can remove the POF to scrape clean the surfaces behind it there, and use an inspection mirror to see what the front of the ignitor element looks like. Presuming it should glow red all around the tip like a diesel engine glow plug?

The bottom auger bushing looked a little worn, but I smoothed out the bearing surfaces on the auger shaft and lightly greased the bushings with hi-temp wheel bearing grease. Seems to be working well now. I think it was a combination of BBs, sawdust, and old pellets that were jamming its movement.

Craigslist find, yeah, that means:
1. Seller's location was further out than advertised.
2. Seller hard to pin down for a meetup.
2. Stove condition was considerably worse than advertised ("Clean, shiny, everything works great, low mileage, etc.")

What I like about this stove:
1. Seems quieter than the one I currently have
2. Auto ignitor feature (when I get it working right. How long should it normally take for the pellets to "catch?")

Depends on how long the board is programmed to feed pellets prior to putting power to the ligniter. My Winslow has fire in 5 minutes or less from the time I hit the start button.
