hello, i am new here. been looking at stoves ,had my mind set on a jotul 118 big bear ,till I saw the fireview , one sweet looking heater !

Welcome Greg. Where are you hailing from and what are you trying to heat?

thanks for the welcome, have a 1920 sq ft house in mariposa ca elv 3300 ft . looking for stove to give long mild heat .

You are going in the right direction with the Fireview. A stone cat stove will fit the bill.

I seen there a lot of fans of the fireview, more money than I wanted to spend , but it looks so good, just have to pick the right color, may be brown !

It's a good heater, especially for long slow burns. Another alternative would be a Blaze King stove. They are excellent for the long slow burn, but that would be a 180º difference in the looks dept.. There is also the Dutchwest Large cat stove that might work out.

Welcome to the forum Greg.

Although 1900 sq. ft. is usually pushing it with the Fireview, I believe in your location it would work very nicely. Have you received the information pack from Woodstock? Have you called them?

Indeed the Fireview is a beautiful stove and that is one of the reasons we bought ours. But we also bought it for the heat and the clean burning. We had also seriously considered a Hearthstone Heritage, which is a beautiful stove but we don't think it compares favorably with the Fireview. Another stove we liked was the Lopi Leyden. We settled on the Fireview and certainly have not been disappointed. It cut our fuel needs in half and keeps us warmer than the old stove did. We've cleaned the chimney one time in 5 years. That can be done by anyone so long as they have good dry wood. That is extremely necessary. You can't cut the wood and then burn it nor can you just go buy some and burn it because it has not had time to dry properly. We usually dry our wood 2-3 years minimum.

Here is a picture of our stove (at least part of it) that I took. This picture was meant to show the porch and the wood to see how close to the stove our wood is. Believe it or not, that stove is metallic brown in color! I've always said it looks gray to me but brown it is.

Thanks Dennis, that is the image I had in mind when he mentioned getting it in brown. I changed the image display to thumbnail per Craig's general request.

Nice stove back woods! have a big old stove that came with the house, too much stove, cant get low burn on it. house is pretty tight dosnt take a lot to keep it warm ,even thou we have central heat, propain, plan on heating with wood most of the time, the more I read about the fireview the more I like! called wood stock to get all the stuff, keep changing our minds on color, may be charcoal!

The charcoal does turn out really nice. Saw some at Woodstock and we like them.

Welcome Greg the Fireview is beautiful and efficient! I have seen Denis's fireview as well as felt it they are a great stove and man do they throw the heat too. When we where looking we looked at Woodstock and they where very very nice even mailed us a couple of stone samples so we could see the colors. Maybe they will do the same for you !

Good luck
Pete

We've got the metallic blue. It's way less blue than the pic on the Woodstock site with the woman and kid in the chair. Ours looks pretty much medium gray with barely a tinge of blue. It's lighter-colored than the charcoal.

This place being as it is they figured at Woodstock i better go with the Fireview.I don't mind cause i like this stove better.Who knows if it's the right size.Try it i guess.
