Remember I tore the wedge off the splitter?

Well I brought it to my welder. He cut the wedge off, then cut the top of the beam off, then took a piece of 5/8" plate and coped the shape of the wedge so the wedge slips through and can be welded on the bottom and on the top. Then the plate with the wedge were welded back to the beam and vertical web stiffeners were added.

I don't think I will have a problem now!

heres that piece of cherry that tore the wedge.
Split like butter. It was a real grainy piece. The top area is what split off when it broke the wedge.

Nice looking welds!

What does the cylinder behind the wedge do?

Designed for a movable 4 way wedge. It can lift/drop the 4 way to the size of splits you want. (or originally, it could drop it all the way down for just a single wedge.)

Cool, thanks!

Real excited to put it to the test this weekend. That trailer in the background is full is ash I just picked up from my job site. There are some large logs on the bottom!

The only way to do a 4-way! >>

I have the four way, and it great, it really speeds things up. They also make a six way wedge!

I had an acquaintance here that has that machine with a 6-way. Wished he'd just stuck with the 4-way. ;)

Before I bought this unit I had used the same model for about six months that another friend a loaned me. It had both the 4 way and the 6 way. I rarely used the six way only because I had a lot of really large rounds. I'm talking 24-28" diameters.

Why did he wish he stuck with the 4 way?

Same reason you left it in the truck. Unless the rounds are ideally sized, it's not really more productive than the 4 way.

Funny, I just split about a cord this afternoon and used the 4 way about 3 times.
