My manager at work, knows I stock up on kindling at work and out of the blue says he has about 1/2 cord of red oak he no longer needs or wants. He has a masonry fireplace, but because many years ago, his wife got sick and the chemo treatments she had damaged her lungs, they no longer burn wood. The good thing is she is fine now.
So I tell him, I'll take it and he says please do (actually tried to give it away a few times). When he told me it was red oak, I was thrilled. I go to his house, and he has it perfectly stacked in his 2 car garage.............since 1998!
I don't burn as much as a lot of you guys do, but this for me came at just the right time.
