I am thinking of replacing my cast iron chiminea with a Vogelzang Box stove - am I crazy? Or if I can find a cheap used woodstove that may be beat but ok to use in the yard..............my current set up gets too smokey when it is windy and smoke blows at you while enjoying a cold beverage. Anyone out there that has this kind of setup and can share thoughts, pics etc would be great - thanks and happy burning!

i have a friend who his dad used an old box stove in the yard to stand around for heat.

That is about all those Vogelzang box stoves are good for.

don't they get rusty?
yea, but there is a good mit of metal there. It would take years to actually rust out. You can also paint it every year or so, or just move it into the garage each year.

Better to soak it good with crisco once a season or so. You can also use spray oil like Pam(get the cheap stuff) and paint it like you would with a rattle can of paint. Get it real hot and the oil will bake on and become a hard black shiny finish. Much the same as seasoning cast iron cook wear. Works great on my offset BBQ hog roaster I built.

When we bought the Fireview in '09 the old Franklin stove went outside.

I've wire wheeled and painted it once and probably should do it again soon. A few feet of chimney keeps most of the smoke out of our eyes. I wish I had a couple more feet of pipe in summer when the draft isn't as great.
