The stoves are extremely efficient and easy to run. They are all cats or hybrids, none are exclusively secondary burn. (They also sell soapstone direct vent gas stoves in various sizes, backed by the same service and warranty.) They have long burn times, permitting comfortable twice daily loading. The glass windows on the stove stay crystal clear, even on lowest cat burn, so long as you use properly seasoned wood (a requirement of all EPA certified stoves to achieve clean burns). The range of heat outputs is impressive, and easy to regulate. These stoves will keep you comfortable whether it is 62 and raining or 30 below out.
There are quite a few other great stoves that would be fine to buy, and could be better suited to your needs. I have no idea what your exact needs are. The good stoves are well built and require little service, unless they are mistreated. Different well built stoves have different degrees of fragility. Woodstocks are very robust. There only requirement is that the first burn of each year you start with a small fire to get the moisture out of the stone. One normally has a small fire anyway, in the early Fall. Other stoves will have their own requirements (some require care not to damage the secondary burn system by impact on loading, for instance). . Some people care about appearance, some don't. Some want a clear viewing window, while others are regularly away from home for days at a time and need a stove that will burn for several days on one load and keep the house from freezing.
Woodstock may be matched in quality of build, but it is unrivaled in service to the customer.
