Hello all, I hope you would be kind enough to help me choose a pellet stove. This will be my primary heat source , with no tru backup(2000 SF home, somewhat drafty.) Looking for something in the 3000 range, please. Checked out the lopi leyden, harman p43, and the Pacific Energy PS45. Am I getting warm?

I don't know about the other's, but I doubt the Harman P-43 would do 2000 sq. ft. Maybe a P-61 depending on the layout and location of the stove.

If your looking to fully heat the 2K sqft, I'm with subsailer. A little more horsepower might be needed. P61/P68 or the Enviro Maxx/Maxx M. Special as you say its a bit drafty. You may not need it all, But its there if you do(extreme cold spell).

Enviro M55 can heat 2000 sqft. Last year was mild but never went over level setting 3. newer house though, older house with draft you may be burning a bunch.

Is this a Ranch? Or split level? Cape?

Is the stove gonna be centrally located?

This plays a BIG PART! I can heat 2,180 with just my Quad on Low until about 10° outside. Then I hit Medium heat setting.

So a Medium stove can heat a Large area. With proper placement and house type.

Even a P-68 wont heat 2,000 sq. If your heating 3 levels (basement of a Cape/ for example).

I used my Quad for a few yrs by itself. I added the wood eater and pellet furnace last year.

Welcome to the Forums.

The Harman P43 is rated for 800 to 2,400 SF so you would be right near the edge of the limit.. The 61A heats 1,300 to 3,500 but starts at about $3,500. And ability to heat will truly depend on how drafty you are...I mean your house.;)

Looked at some older posts. Seems your heating 2,500 sq. Multiple levels. You have a Consolidated Dutchwest now.

If you had to feed it every couple hours, then your gonna need a Very LARGE UNIT.

Personally. I would look into a Pellet furnace or A Large Pellet stove that can be ducted (Enviro Maxx/ Enerzone Euromax).

Thanks all! Yes I did say 2500 SF, but I'm overestimating. Plus, some of that is upstairs space which is always automatically hot(so I'm figuring for 2000 sf). My Dutchwest stove is old now, doesnt work efficiently. But if it worked properly I might get a 6-8 hour burn. I have an open floor plan, and the stove is centrally located. I have no basement, just a crawl space. The house is really an old A frame with an extension. I'm just finishing up replacing all the windows and siding, so its better (but I would still call it drafty because of the 5 sliding glass doors I still have). Anyone know how loud the enviromax is? I need it to go in my living room, and be quiet enough to stop my wife from complaining.

Thanks Dexter, is that the quad classic you can heat your whole house with? Strange how the quad classic seems under priced as compared to their wood stoves.

Yep. Used just the Classic Bay for a few yrs. Last year I installed the woodstove and pellet furnace

I still use the Quad. Times like now (shoulder seasons) when its above 30° outside. Its easier than running the furnace . Plus I like to see the fire :). But when its below 30° I use the Pellet furnace. The temperature stays even room to room.

The Quad ever had a problem (I have the problem ;)) heating the house, I just wanted other options (and I got a great deal) because I am not gonna ever burn LP again! Or at least as long as I am physically able enough to keep burning wood and pellets.

My house is a Ranch and the Classic Bay is almost dead center in the house. I have sealed it up pretty good over the years and done quite a bit of insulating and upgrading. So to say that it will do the same in your house, would be a lie.

Single story and centrally location is the ideal situation. Or to get the best results anyways.

Cheers

Depending on house layout - would it be worth having two stoves instead of one? Say its around 2000sq ft - I'd rather have two stoves running at lower settings than one stove running at a higher setting. Obviously many different factors play into this.

I hear you guys about the second stove, I'm all about it. Looks like the wife has other ideas though, she will have to learn the hard way. The storm is coming, and my wife managed to piss off my wood guy last week. So we have no wood now, gonna have to borrow some. Its gonna be a looooong winter. Gonna cancel the woodstock hybrid and go with the enviromax pellet stove, probably add a second unit when needed. I love wood, but the giant hopper on the enviromax is tough to resist. Thanks again you guys are great!

Are you getting the Enviro Maxx or the Enerzone Euromax? It its the Maxx, are you getting the Maxx-M (multi fuel)?

Both are large units that can be ducted, if you decide that heat is needed elsewhere in the home.

Better to go big and have the HP than to undersize the unit and work it hard, 100% of the time.

You did well. Congrats. Pellets are much cleaner, easier, and the automation is awesome. Its about as easy as running your furnace (takes more maintenance). Set the stat and keep the hopper filled until its time to clean. :)

Thanks Dex! I cant find much info on the euromax, no dealers that I see in NY( I cant even find a price). On the enviromax, looks pretty good if I can find a decent price. I'd settle for an englander, but I cant resist the burn times the larger hoppers provide. Enviromax prices seem to vary greatly. I might have to make a new post to find a decent price.

Hi Dave, you might want to look at a Drolet Eco-65 as well. It has a great price point and meets the criteria your're looking for. Im not sure if there is a dealer near you but they can be found in box stores etc.

I just bought and installed a Euromax, the isn't a lot of info of out there, I contacted a few people on here who had one or was a seller of them, I upgraded from my englander 25pvcd, ok stove, too many nooks and crannies to keep clean and inconsistent heat. The euro max is a beast, 4" air and exhaust, the 4" intake air is mandatory for this stove and you want at least 3' vertical rise, I went 6', the controls are easy, all LED touch screen, the heat output is awesome and this stove cools down rather uniquely, 1/2 the time if not more than other stoves, if your going to install it yourself like I did, have help, this stove is 400 pounds

Hey ssbn did you notice that you can turn on each motor and blower individually on the control board?

My p61 heats our 1900 sq feet excellent and doesn't struggle at all.

MOST IMPORTANT THINGS IMO

If this is your only source of heat with no back up - MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A DEALER AVAILABLE WITH PARTS TO REPAIR 24/7.

You need a back up energy source.

You said your home is drafty, I would defintly go over sized, with a LARGE hopper. (In case you can't make home for a extended period)
I would over size the stove, this is your primary heat with no back-up, bigger is better. You can't upgrade if you undersize.

As dexter suggested pellet boiler/furnace/ductable stove, is a nice sounding option for your case.

IMO.

Indeed!!
