Active since 1995, Hearth.com is THE place on the internet for free information and advice about wood stoves, pellet stoves and other energy saving equipment.
We strive to provide opinions, articles, discussions and history related to Hearth Products and in a more general sense, energy issues.
We promote the EFFICIENT, RESPONSIBLE, CLEAN and SAFE use of all fuels, whether renewable or fossil.
That looks like a "circulator" (non EPA i.e. EPA exempt) no glass door and generally not efficient. They load from the side. There's currently another thread asking about one:
They were popular in the late 60's through the 70's. We just installed one up in the boy scout camp cabin that was donated by an older gentleman to our troop. It's almost like brand new, don't think it's seen many fires. They aren't the most efficient stoves out there, definitely NOT worth the 800 clams that guy is asking for it......
Used to see lots of them. A lot of folks seemed to like them because the cabinet would not get so hot and therefore didn't have to worry so much about little Johnny burning his hands. They worked but most were inefficient. I don't know about the newer models but do know there are a couple companies still make them. We saw some when we stopped at a stove shop the last time we were shopping.
New to the forum...I'm currently using the ole King wood/coal stove you guys are talking about, out in my garage. Its been in my family for 34yrs, it accepts 22" logs and will burn more wood in a week than I can tote to it in a month!
