After cleaning the Seton, does anyone seal the skins so that they do not leak a little smoke on shut down? Was thinking that high temp RTV sealant would do the trick but not sure if it is necessary.

Also...

What are people using to seal the tiny pinholes that appear after years of use on the top skin?

I use sealant on mine.......And if your not looking to replace the skin with pin holes use the sealant there as well..

Thanks - do you ever get a smoke leak around the inlet holes at shutdown? If so, what have you used to seal that off? In the past, I've ran a bead of sealant around the cover and placed wax paper over it. Then I have the damper actuator shut down the system so that it makes the seal.

I've done the same thing with the inlet door....... I don't get any smoke while idling , I'm wandering why you do. Do you have a connected flue damper that shuts down at idle?

Yes, I do. It creeps out through the inlet cover (5 holes above the damper) which shuts down with the damper when the high temp point is reached.

When I made mine I thought it would be a good idea to link a flue damper with the intake damper. Total shut down was going to be great.......I thought.......I unhooked right away, closing off the flue caused smoke to come out of every possible crack in the thing. Now I use it to regulate my unit depending on the wind for the day.

i seal the skins on the just on the outside not under the skin so it comes off easier without bending the skin the next time it comes off. i sealed my draft door to stop it from getting air in and smoke out with a damper on the exhaust.

i have the same shut off on the exhaust on mine and it would do the same thing. so i added a motor to it with a delay timer so when it shuts now no smoke.
