Looking for nearby source of soapstone wood stove

Well typically if you're talking soapstone stoves you're looking at Hearthstones or Woodstocks. I imagine you could go to the Hearthstone website and find a list of local dealers.

As for Woodstock . . . they're manufacturer direct . . . there are no dealers.

If you have a smart phone, get the cPro CRAIGSLIST app ($1.99). Enter what you are looking for and how far you will go, you will have a lot of info. Also use keywords of wood stove, wood burning stove, wood burner, wood burning, I found a lot of stoves this way. Fespo

With the knowledge in this forum you should consider giving hem as much info as possible and asking for a recommendation. There are many variables, including preferences that can be accommodated with a number of stoves once sizing and other installation questions are considered. 1800sf is a good start. How about a description of the floor plan and chimney? Is it a single story or two story, how is it insulated/or not etc? What's your budget for this?

I'm surprised this questions haven't been asked already?

Preference is soapstone and that is good. When we started looking for our last new stove we first looked at Hearthstone. They do have some beautiful stoves but there was just something seemed lacking. The dealers we went to knew practically nothing which really didn't help. I even had to show one how to run the stove! We looked at many other stoves too but for some reason we kept coming back to Woodstock. Many years ago we came close to buying one but the dollars were a bit tight so we did not buy then. If we had it to do over again, I would have borrowed the dollars and got one and we'd have had a happier home for sure.

One thing we were afraid of was the cat issue. We had heard some sad stories so were sort of against them but then learned that the Woodstock stoves were cat stoves! Hum, what to do now? Woodstock then hooked us up with one of their customers here in MI and we paid them a visit. What this man told us about the stove really sold us. That six month money back guarantee also made a big difference because I still had some doubts that that little rock could heat our old drafty home. Well, after visiting that man, we made our minds up on the way home that we would call Woodstock and order a stove. This was in March.

We were doing a little remodeling at the time so did not install the stove until September. They did extend the guarantee but we never once considered sending it back. The reason for this is that compared with the stove we were using before, we immediately saw the amount of wood we needed was cut in half. In addition, rather than closing off part of the house and still not being warm, we now could keep our old drafty home up to 80 degrees or more all winter and heating the whole house.

We have since added a room onto the house and done more remodeling including adding lots of insulation. In the six years we have heated our house with the Fireview, we have burned 3 cord of wood per winter with the exception of one year when we burned only 2 1/2 or thereabouts.

btw, we do heat 100% with the Fireview and have no problems doing so. You can look them up at www.woodstove.com or you can even call them at 800-866-4344 and go to extension 2. You get to talk to real people and you will not get high pressure. This is a great company to deal with and their customer service is second to none. This is one of the things that makes this company great.

I'd be looking at the Progress Hybrid, I'd do business with Woodstock even if I lived in the Northwest USA. They take good care of their customers no matter where you live.
