i am going to look at a used p61,besides giving it a test run with pellets anybody got any good questions that i should ask the seller or anything i should look for?the asking price is $2500. thanks in advance for any insight.

Is it a P61 or a P61A? Bring a flashlight with you...Run your hand in the burnpot to see if it's been cleaned right, Pull the flame guide & look to see if it's distorted. Pull the ash pan & look at the combustion blower behind it. Pull the cover from that blower & with your flashlight look at the exhaust port where the ESP is located. I might even bring a 5/16" nut driver & remove the left rear shroud & take a look at the fines box. Look in the hopper...New ones are selling for $3599, so if this one's in good shape, it might be a good deal...

I looked at a used P61, the older non auto lite version. It was in a stove shop, not hooked up and not cleaned up yet ( it had been his mothers stove). They wanted $1500 for it with the extended hopper. I don't know how that relates to your stove exactly but just thinking the stove shop probably would have stood behind it for that $1500 purchase price. Unless the stove is almost new, I'm thinking the price it a tad high on the one you are looking at. Is it a dressed up model ( Nickle door and grill etc) ?

I'll let the Harman pros here answer your other concerns.

I think you can do better than $2,500, seems a little steep for a used P-61. My .02:cool:

Yes, all Harman's have a fines box, located back left side of stove, has a wing nut to hold cover-plate on.

With the sharp increase of heating fuels its driving pellet stove prices up. Pretty much all the decent stoves on CL in MN are gone. Some have been listed since last spring!
