My stove is rated for 50/50 mix. I have been thinking about running some corn in mine as well.

I grow corn. I should have saved some for stove burning.

The key is it needs to be less than 15% moisture content.

Will be trying corn too but haven't had time to get some yet

Take a coffee can full to your local co-op. They have a moisture tester.

In New England, where would one look for the right corn to burn? Anyone know what the price is per ton up here?

A lot of Farmers have a moisture tester.. A grain elevator will have a moisture tester and would more than likely test it for you.

If you can find a friendly farmer to sell you some the current cost of corn in this area it figures out to approx $130 a ton or $3 a bushel. You would need a wagon or trailer of some type to haul it and a way to store it. I put mine in barrels when I got it home.
35 Bushels is approx a ton. Last years crop is dryer than the new corn.
A mix of pellets, corn and a small handful of oyster shells keeps the stove happy.

Corn is very corrosive with the sugar content. Venting to compensate this needs to be different than just for a stove that is pellets only. I am not sure about a 50/50 mix and it's effect on venting.

I'm burning 50/50 this year. Lots of heat for less money. Plus it smells better when you are outside. Just make sure you have venting rated for corn.

My 1st stove was a Bixby corn was 175 a ton and it did require more work than not ! Prices here in Maine went through the roof ! I bought two Harmans been burning wood pellets Ohhh for 5/6 years and haven't looked back !

I burn 50/50 in my M55. Runs like a champ and the heat is much more then pellets alone.

@Peterfield - yield this year in central NY sucks so corn prices are not super low like in other parts of the country. I just paid 250 a ton for 50lb bags. I usually get it from my father-in-law for next to nothing.
