Got a project stove that has had some neglect, well ok a lot of neglect. Divorce issues etc. Tried to move the latch and no go so attempted to remove the bolt and it broke off. I was not using a impact but a 1/4 drive rachet with only a 6 inch handle:(
If I can remove the other three bolts of the plate can it be removed and repair of the now broke bolt be accomplished? Or should I just bite the bullet and drill and tap it? Anyone gone this far? Yes I did a search.

I'd try taking the other three screws out personally, if I remember correctly its just three self tapping screws and I think it may just be an all metal lock nut on it thats on the back side of the main bolt so may save yourself from doing any drilling or tapping.

That's what I was hoping for but my dealer never been that deep so was no more help than the service Harman provides via phone. That's why I am here trying to help others too.

I'd spray the other 3 with PB Blaster a time or two before trying to back them out...

Cleaned mine today, looks to be 3 sheet metal screws and a 1/4-20. Looking thru the dist blower hole i can see the backside of the latch assy, there's a thru hole for the pivot bolt nut to fit inside the dist air cavity. I'm almost certainremoving the 3 sheet metal screws and the latch assy will come out with the pivot attached. You might consider predrilling 2 or 3 new mounting holes before attempting to remove the originals, that way if they break you can just use the new holes, or add screws to plug the holes if not needed. dist blower mount.jpg exh blower.jpg

Two of the three self tapping screws the heads were round so drilled the heads off and grabbed them with a pliers after the plate was taken off. Had to just punch out the 1/4 20. Now ready to blast and get ready to do some painting

Had a thought AFTER putting the esp back in, it's mounting tab has the hole for the screw, thinking i'll make the hole slot and just have to loosen the screw, rotate the esp and pull it out. Going to need to look closely before i do but thought i'd mention it.

Should work well.

When I was a member of blacksmiths guild there was a study done on best products to crack stuck bolts etc. Best was tranny fluid and a carrier like acetone.

Glad to see the progress. You all are guilt tripping me into working on mine! I would have already if I didn't have more pressing things to do. I will be back on it this afternoon though.
