Hi, new to forum and pellet stoves, wood stove guy for years. I recently installed a 55-TRPIP and it does not seem to put out as much heat as I thought it would, though I don't know what I am talking about. I filled the hopper with a couple bags and have been running on 9 for over a day and it is about half way empty. Is that right?

no it is not if i am understanding you correctly, the unit should use a bag in 12 hours or less on heat range 9.may need to contact my tech team so they can go through some checking with you to determine why the stove is not accellerating as it should.

call CS at 800-245-6489 or PM me a daytime phone number and i will have a tech contact you

Thank for your reply, 12 hour is good to know. I think I will run it out of pellets then put in a bag and run at 9 until empty so I have a benchmark.

While you're waiting, check to make sure the thermostat jumper is firmly in place. Look in the manual at the thermostat section. There should be a small wire that jumpers those 2 terminals if there isn't a thermostat installed. If that's not there, the stove will always run at 1 as it thinks the thermostat is satisfied.

mchasal, I think that is ok as I do see changes in the input of pellets as I adjust it upwards. I am just wondering if there is something wrong with addition of pellets by the auger may be slower than expected.

Thanks, it is 441. After I ran it out and filled it with one bag, it burned about 3/4 bag in 12 hours on 9, which seems faster. But now there is a loud squeak from every 2 to 15 minutes (random) from the stove. The manual says to check for an obstruction, but this is the first couple of bags I have run in it.

probably fines in the auger , sometimes you get a flake of wood trapped between the auger flighting and the tube, causes the auger to rub the tube, when its next empty, vac out the fines from the bottom of the hopper and reach in and shake the auger around in the tube to see if it will dislodge the fragment. another thing that can be done is to take a couple cups of pellets put in a zip lock bag and dump in a couple tubes of powdered graphite , shake it up to coat the pellets then dump it right into the empty auger , fill with "clean" pellets over the top and run the stove , the graphite will help lubricate the auger and tube

Thanks for your reply. I'll give a go and then try two bags and see how long it runs at 9. I am guessing if it is over 30 hours I'll go ahead and give the techs a call. I am sure they are really busy this time of year.

yeah its busy for us , but we can work you in im sure. just keep me in the loop through this thread so i can see how things are working for ya

Thanks for the cleaning and graphite suggestion, it worked great. So at the end of my test I am burning just under 3lb per hour with the system set at 9 during the burning of 80lb of pellets. I guess I have an unusual situation, as the house has an overarching passive solar design. If it is 40 degrees outside and sunny the place does not need heat at all, but if you have weather like we have had in northern VA with cloudy and cold, you do pay a price with heat loss through the windows, hence the need for higher btu stove, with the feast or famine motif. Do you think it is possible to tweak this stove to use a bit more fuel at the high setting?
