The dog is trying to burn down the house...

So the other night we noticed the stove (Oslo) was running a bit hot by the end of the evening. Enough so that I went a little light on the Final load of the evening and sat with it a little longer.

Next day minimal coals in the am but got a restart out of it and went out for a bit. Came home to a nearly cold stove after 3 hours, odd.

Upon loading back up I notice the front door seemed to be slightly a jar. (we always use the side door) Yep, handle was slightly lifted and there was a clear open gap around half the door letting air in.

Thinking back, we recalled the dog bumping the hot stove the night before and heard a slight squeak / squeal, there was a lot going on, Kong toys flying, cats stalking, me yelling at the wife and animals not to play around the stove, etc... Made sure the dog wasn't burnt and life went on.

Guess we should have checked the door too! This morning he just strolled by the stove and with his whacky rebuilt knee, he hit the handle again and cracked the door open!

Thankfully it still stays latched a little bit and doesn't just flop open, one more time and I may be rigging something up or removing the handle.

Turns out it's a conspiracy, wife is in on it too!

It was her early morning for work so she was out the door and I was enjoying having the warm bed to myself. Phone rings, it's her, first thought is that she had an accident on black ice (messy this morning and she's not the best driver).

She tells me she's pretty sure she didn't shut the side door of the stove after re starting the fire this morning! I hustle down stairs, sure enough, door isn't latched and stove was starting to get pretty warm.

I may have to just pad lock the stove doors and not share the keys with anyone.

Odd. NEVER had either one of these happen, then both in 36 hours.

Think I should just move to a warmer zip code and not leave a forwarding address.

Currently the oslo sits on an unfinished over sized durock hearth, plan is to make some final changes and cut the floor portion down this spring before tiling. Right now, I'm thinking the extra ember protection is pretty nice to have.
