I have a 10 year old hearthstone mansfield, I am having a problem with it smoking when I start fire, I need to open the door to create a decent draft to start fire, it feels like the flue is sticky, what can be the problem? and is it fixable.

Welcome. This could be poorly seasoned wood or a flue that is plugging up, or both. When was the flue last checked and cleaned. Is there a screen on the cap? When was the wood split and stacked?

thankyou for your response, maybe I wasn't clear in my question, my chimney is fine, every thing from stove to top of chimney is great, it has to do with the inner workings of the stove, is the flue in the stove bent? and can i get to it? would that create a puffing in my stove.

Could you answer the questions first? It helps to establish conditions there. We can't see over the internet, so you need to be the eyes on site.

There is no flue in the stove.

Yes your air control could be bent or the linkage came apart. Just look under your stove, you will see the linkage and the plate that slides back and forth to control incoming air. I think the air is introduced on the rear of the Ashpan housing.

The most likely culprit though is a buildup of flyash on top of the baffle. Pull the pipe and vaccum it out, just don't destroy the cerimac wool blanket.

I was wondering if the blanket got bunched up at the flue exit. That's why I asked if there was a recent cleaning.

I've definitely seen that happen. We once changed a stove out over that. The dealer of the original stove couldn't figure it out and blew them off. So they bought a new stove! The blanket was blocking 90% of the flue collar. (Rear exit)

My Equinox Hearthstone (like the Manchester) has a hard ceramic blanket, is his soft because its 10 years old, mine is 4.I took an electric leaf blower and blew out the top without tearing anything apart, rear exit, so tuff to move it around.

The Equinox doesn't have a blanket, only a cerimac board baffle. The Mansfield has a blanket as well as the baffle. Manufacturers will stick a wool blanket on top of the baffle if it's necessary to increase efficiency.
