Hi -- made the move to a country home 12 months ago and became a lurker on this forum. Love the outdoors: chopping wood, etc., but less skilled in DIY. My first post.

Our wood-stove insert seems very old, but it passed the home inspection and worked well. But a few days ago the fan stopped working -- i.e., nothing happens when I turn the speed-control on. I removed the cover. Used a voltage "sniffer" -- there seems to be power both before and after the speed control (on one wire; the other had no power before or after, but I assume that's a quirk of AC / sniffers). But that's about the limit of my electrical know-how.

I'm unsure of the stove manufacturer. The house is 40-45 years old, outside of Toronto. I posted some photos here. Appreciate any help with:
  • Should I try to get the exact replacement motor? I mean, could you just blow air in the hole from anything similar?
  • Also, most replacement blower motors are pricey? Anyone know why? Amazon sells motors for bathroom fans for $13, but blower fan kits are well over $100. To do with a special heat rating, perhaps?
  • Any idea what brand of wood stove this is? I assume "Underwriters Laboratories of Canada" is the original inspector; perhaps they manufactured stoves. Have Googled most of the terms on this and cannot find much beyond the UL as a standards setter.
Appreciate any and all help, very much! Thanks in advance.

I would "shut off" the power to the speed control first...then remove the wires going to the control and connect them together and then turn the power back on and see if the blower works. Also, clean the motor and fan of all the dust...

A picture of the stove and the UL label on the rear may help us identify it.

There's a picture of the label on the link
