Hello everyone, I've been shopping for months now reading and learning about tons off different stoves. We narrowed our decision (which was very hard to do) down to the Jotul f55. I'll be posting pictures in a few weeks after the install is complete. I was wondering if anyone else with a f55 had some info about burn times doing E-W and N-S they wanna share, or anything else like start ups and stuff.

Welcome. That is a nice stove. A good place to start would be searching for past threads on the F55. There should be several with good info in them.

In my experience, NS loading works the best. Gives a good cigar burn (front to back) and logs don't roll out when the door is opened.

My first year with the F55 I was fortunate to have seasoned hickory. I got several 10+ hour burns. My second year I was burning 1 year seasoned oak. Not ideal. I still got 7-8 hour burns consistently all winter.

For cold starts I had the fastest starts with the upside down fire method. Congrats on your F55 decision. You will love the stove! I'm looking forward to your pics. ::-)

I have been browsing the forums for a while, and some scrolling through the media section. Not too many videos on this stove it seems. I'll have to make some this coming winter. Thanks for the input on the cigar Burns you've had.

I don't cut/split any of my wood, I just order from the local tree service guy so I get 14" - 18" splits.

There are several on YouTube. Here is a nice secondary burn video, with cat.

And here's a Jottal burning.

I have had mine for 2 seasons and love it. N-S is best just as 7acers said I've seen same burn times with various types of hard wood (maple ,cherry yellow birch and so on)

I upgraded to f55 for last winter. Love It!
1600 Sq ft loft home with lots of windows. Previous 2 cu ft insert struggled below 20. F55 no problem. Good seasoned oak heats all night lots of coals in the morning. Everything I hoped it would be. Have fun!
