I'm a pretty good log poker. Rick

Yep, somehow I suspect you've also got a lot of poker logged too.

Oh...I've played the game. :) Who's deal is it? Rick

Hence the reason for the "round" metal bristle ends

This is one of my favorite hearth accessories. This puppy sucks up the fine ash and wood crumbs like nobodies business. Your pal Catkill gives this "two thumbs up".

Does that thing suck, or shoot? Or both? Rick

I like it...tell us more about it. Looks like maybe it's cordless. Looks like maybe it's built to operate in outer space. I'm sure you've got one at home, one in the vacation house, and one for each vehicle...am I right? I want one. Maybe two. Rick

Zero to warp speed in 1.3 seconds.

Maybe you could attach it as a propulsion system on your balloon rig? Heck, put it on the back of yer hog and call it Mr. Fusion model 2.

Maybe with a couple dozen, I could attach the Hog to the balloon rig. :bug: Rick

Welders gloves or any good thick leather gloves that go well over the wrist are recommended. I was branded by the edge of my door opening a few times until I got a little smarter.

Something to be able to pick up a burning split might sometimes come in handy too. The poker is a must. Ash shovel is a must too unless you get that weird vacuum.

I hope you all choke on your own ash.... :coolsmirk: (especially you Rick) :p

So much for the futuristic Euro-design... I guess our energy policy is suffering the same fate.

I was quite serious...I want one. Post here or PM me with the model name/number. I have lots of jobs for a tool like that. Rick

EDIT: What energy policy?

We haven't gotten into stovepipe/chimney cleaning yet. Rick

Make sure you have a good smoke detector & CO2 detector nearby. OK, I'm an old fuddy duddy.

What? No one mentioned ferrets…

Probably a part of the alternative power supply, G ;-P

I expect this thing to be powering his hog, soon ;-) "I need more dilithium crytals !!!!"

A sense of independence and a willingness to do the work involved to be a full time wood burner is more important than anything else these people will advise you on. Live and learn and take some pride in becoming somewhat independent. Make that commitment and keep up with this forum and it will serve you well.

Afterwards, maybe, just maybe us "crazies will make sense"..

For me - I bought two hammered steel log racks from enclume. I have one on the right of the fireplace with a tool set and the one on the left is just a rack.

I have some stack-it brackets to make some nice log racks out in the back yard. I use treated 4 by 4s on the bottom to space the wood off the ground a little more and put a concrete step under each one. I have 4 of these that are about 20 feet long. I'll take some pics.

If that's all it takes, then I'm one too. (and don't forget a dry chemical fire extinguisher). Rick

Hey Rick welcome to the club, remember our motto BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY!

Get some good fire starters (Super Cedars or at least some fatwood) and an ash rake.

I agree. That thing looks like it came from outer space.

I bet it beats lugging a Kirby around all the time though.
