Do you let it get before you light a fire? my G/F gets cold very easily so we light a fire when it gets into the 40's. Plus we just love the fire. I admit that it sometimes gets hot in here, but the G/F likes it!!!!!

It was 45 last night but the house is still absorbing too much heat during the day to try and light a fire. i'm anxious to light my first fire of the year and my wife likes it warm too but I don't see it happening anytime in the next month.

when my wife and kids complain. during the winter if its below 68 degrees in the house they whine so that's pretty much the rule, if its 68 or below we light. shoulder seasons are a battle, as I hate to hear the furnace kick on.

She got a sister

SK, in response to your question... it's 67 here. I have the windows open, and am doing another break in fire.

I gotta tell ya I am NOT in a hurry to start burnin'

Once I get started it'll go til April I'm sure....

HOWEVER, If the house gets down to the mid 60's and the outside temps aren't expected to go past 60 during the day chances are I'm gonna be burnin' some boxelder or some such lightweight wood.

I keep the oak, hickory, apple, ash, walnut, cherry, and elm for when it's get cold!

Right now I am walking around the house without a shirt, and as you can guess I am skinny so it ain't cold. My G/F is at work and she told me that it would be nice to come home to a fire since I lit one this morning and she LOVED IT.

But I don't know if I am gonna light one. She will just hafta warm up by staying close to me!!! (insert cheesy background music here)

i agree 100% - i love the stove BUT i am no rush to fire it up so i'm hoping for late Oct / early Nov when it starts it wont stop until March

I am hoping for Start of November. House still stays warm from the sun during the day. Once I start to burn I don't want ot start stop start stop!

My wife and i built a fire in our new Jotul F3 and we loved it. Burning only chucks of wood from splitting. Got a little warm but we opened the windows and it sure was nice. I think we are going to do it again tonight can't wait.

When our back up heat goes on we'll probably start a fire...it hasn't yet even though out side temp have dropped into the 50's.

Skinnykid, you just are not getting her hints, are you???? It's not your FIREwood she wants!!!!!

My degree cutoff is 50.

I hold out as long as I can, mid late November if I can get away with it.
No fire yet, but plan on it this Friday after work, first burn after having it cleaned.
I was planning on it last weekend with company coming over, ended up staying in Boston...

DId you go to the Italian Feast in Cambridge? We did, it was fun.

Haha I was on the other side of the bridge!
BF was photographing the Tattoo Convention all weekend, I'm his assistant & our friends were in town for that.

Ya, those festivals are fun, Boston Tattoo Convention was fun too, even if it was work for me.

I see no reason to hold out as long as I can. I'm all about comfort, and I know I have enough wood no matter how long the burning season is.

Outside temps also don't mean much to me. Its the inside temps that dictate whether a fire is lit or not in our house. If it gets much below 64-65F, then I'll light a fire.

Yep, this is my strategy. Oh - and to listen to "she who must be obeyed".

I was thinking the same exact thing.

dito house is still high 60s in the a.m.

Doesnt matter to me what it is outside. The inside temps are still in the 70’s which means way too early. It will have to dip into the 50’s inside before any type of heat comes on including the fire. Probably at least another month.

I work in Cambridge a lot. but I like to refer to it as the Peoples republic of Cambridge
