Curious as to sets their stove on auto with 'stat or goes with manual & tweeks around with it. I'm a set it & forget it kind of guy . Although , i must admit i am kinda curious to see how it would operate on manual . Muss

all depends on the brand and TYPE of stove
I like HIGH LOW THERMOSTATS with most pellet stoves
IMO
The best STAT function in HI LOW because if you have a Properly functioning stove and you clean the burn pot out every few days the stove will not go out because it likes fire.
It may build up and the fire will be dirty if you go more that 4 days with a Average pellets but is will stay going.
But with and ON and OFF mode thermostat when the stove shuts off you will have a layer of Ash or clinker in the bottom of the burn pot.
EVERY TIME the stove has a shut down cycle more and more of the ash and or clinker will build up and block the Air holes in the bottom of the pot and sometimes even the HOLE for the ignitor and the STOVE WILL NOT LIGHT UP.
THIS IS WHY I WILL NOT SET A CUSTOMERS STOVE TO ON AND OFF MODE for any of our Enviro stove EXCEPT the OMEGA because it has a SELF CLEANING burn pot.
My Enviro Omega (60K BTU) I run it on ON and OFF with the heat setting on 3 (Mid Level Setting)
because it has a self cleaning burn pot and I dont have to fret about the Burn pot building up and stove not lighting.
and it has TWO ignitor Eliments

Auto as well.....but I like the ability on the Mt Vernon to quickly increase the comfort level setting which in turn increases the heat out put....sort of a quick auto override.

I am a manual type of guy. There is a Super-10 on my Semi. Automatics are for sissy that can not use a clutch much less double clutching. Oh I am sorry did not know you were talking about stoves. Hahaha.
Tstats are good for warmer days and colder nights. When the temp drops just leave it in manual, less you have to worry and work the stove.
Pellet Pigs, get 2 burning. Calling for snow on Monday. YES!

Feeling the Heat
I run on auto with a wireless programmable tstat. Seems to work fine. Although I'm curious to see if I'd use more or less pellets running on manual. Although since we're not home 10 hours a day, even on low, I think I'd go through more pellets.

so far all manual, considering switching to auto to see if will actually use less pellets, and if it will work well on low speed

Having had the stove on automatic for the past 2 days, it does save more pellets than manual. We have it running on 4 with the high/low thermostat and just reset the thermostat if we're going to be in the downstairs (at 70) and if we'll be asleep or not home (62-65). We're saving more pellets than if we run it at 3 all the time, and have reduced our pellet usage by about 1/2 bag per day by using automatic. It burns better on low than if we turned it down to 2. When we're back at work, it will be even less.
