Ya, web needs to update the rate your stove list and add some of the Canadian models from SBI to it. I haven't seen a review, but am also curious about this model. It looks like a well equipped and a serious heater. Where were you thinking of getting it? Is there a local store or online?

FWIW, I would also consider the stout Englander NC30 for comparison.

For comparison, you might want to call up your local Lowes or Home Depot and ask what they are getting for an Englander 30NC or it's equivalent, the Summer's Heat 50-SNC30. You'll find several reviews here for that stove. It's a bit heavier and still sells for just under $1K.

I almost bought a Drolet, not that particular model though. There are online sites selling Drolet wood stoves that have user reviews. Their wood stoves are pretty consistently given top ratings. The local hardware store where I bought my stove sold Drolet's largest model, which was just too much stove for my house. I know everyone says you can burn a smaller fire in a large firebox, but you aren't operating a stove efficiently when you do that. If you have a big box store nearby, you might check out Englanders like BG suggested. If you aren't near a big box store but have a DoItBest hardware store, you might check with them since that chain also carries Englanders. ( Even though I could have ordered an Englander through the local DoItBest hardware store and gotten free delivery to the store, I was hesitant to order something without eyeballing a floor model--my local DoItBest doesn't stock them but will order them. )

If you want to look at the englanders the Sutherland's in Fulton has them in stock. the 30 goes for @$900.

I have a Baltic, which is the same stove as the Legend, but in pedestal form. The Drolet Austal, Baltic, Legend, and Myriad are all the same stove "box" with different cosmetic changes (legs/pedestal, heat shield/no heat shield, etc).

It's a good stove. I wrote a review here.

I will say that while I was looking, I went to a Lowes and saw an Englanders and did not like it (cosmetically). I didn't do a thorough inspection, so I'm not talking about build quality... it was just a, "meh... not so much" kind of impression.

What store, btw? I'm in the St. Louis area as well. I'd be curious to know who's selling Drolets around here and for how much. I got mine online.

I love the sheer burning power of my Summit, but am very jealous to see that this far more reasonably priced Drolet Baltic has a BYPASS, enabling easy smoke free loading even during mid burn, while my Summit does not :-(

It is not always possible to time the next load perfectly to when the fire has died down and is on glowing embers only, and these EPA stoves push the heat/smoke/fumes to the front of the box to keep the glass clean, so even with a strong draft going, it is very hard not to get some wiff of burn into the house daily, if you ever have to re-load too early. My old smoke dragon NEVER got smoke in the house, because it always was running in straight up, bypass mode ;-)

A BYPASS is a great solution that all these pricey stoves really need to incorporate. Only other solution is a vent fan, but that seems a bit messy, hacking into the pipes and running power so close to the hot stove.

Damn ... and I thought I found the perfect stove !!!! :-|
