I got a call from my dealer and St. Croix is sending out a service kit that needs to be installed on the revolutions. I have not seen the notice but to the best of my knowledge the kit is in regards to the clumping and buildup in the burn pot. They are adding another safety switch and are doing something to the burn pot. It sounded like it would be extensive because it would also require a new wiring harness. The dealer said they are recommending that you do not use your Revolution until the kit is installed as there is a possibility that the build up in the burn pot can gets to big and it burn back in to the hopper.

I have not stop using mine but I am watching it a little closer. I am burning pellets which I have had some ash clumping. I make sure its cleaned out each time shut the furnace down. Check with your dealer for details.

Thanks for the heads - up, I'll call in the morning, not gonna stop burning, not getting any clumping or buildup, but will keep an eye on it.

My dealer installed the update late yesterday. They said the addilitonal safety feature monitored the turning of the burn pot and will shut the furnace down if the pot does not or cannot rotate every 2 hours or so. They will keep the furnace from feeding fuel, overloading the burn pot while the fire continues. They also installed a new vacuum switch which measures vaccum pressure both inside and outside the furance. Hopefully, this will address my vacuum issues so I don't need to bypass the switch now.

The only issue with the update was that the cover over the burn pot motor was tight against the motor so it couldn't turn. I took the cover off after they had left when I realized it and everything is working. I will call my dealer today.

The safety update included a new control board, new wiring, and new sensors to monitor the burn pot turning.

My dealer make out yesterday and installed the kit. The kit also includeds a new bracket for mounting the cleaning motor. I did not not notice mine hitting the cover but I will check it out.

Thanks for the info. I was burning corn and had it back up and start a fire in the hopper. I took me 2 hours to make sure the fire was out since the auger was filled with red hot burning pellets (the fire backed up into the small hopper). I opened the hopper door and the air fueled the fire. I had to keep cycling the furnace on and off to have the auger push out all the burning pellets. The house smelled like smoke for days. I missed the De La Hoya fight that night, I was pissed...The wife wanted me to return the furnace. On top of all that, I still cant get it to heat my home..

Finally managed to get my dealer to answer the phone the other day. Told him I heard about this service bulletin, he had no idea what I was talking about, but "Let me know if you find out any more about it" Seems like HE should check this out, but oviously is to busy to bother. Does anyone have the bulletin number, or, if you have a real dealer, could you ask him, please. I'd like to call this moron back with the bulletin, and have him get me the kit. Don't mind putting it in myself, but have no clue how to contact St. Croix directly. Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi Hoss,

I took a look at the info that my dealer left after the service update installation. There was no reference to a service #. However, there is a cover letter from St. Croix and updated pages for the owners manual for the pages that change due to the update.

Here is a couple of the comments in the cover letter.

The revolution motor mount bracket has been updated to elininate a jamming issue that our service department had been receiving calls on.....

During the testing, we saw a need to update the safety features in the furnace and have added a sensor that monitors the rotation of the self cleaning revolution pot. By adding another micro switch, we can now monitor the rotation of the drum every 2 hours.....

If you would like, I can scan the letter and new owners pages at work Monday and send to you..

maacac, that would be great if ya could do that. I'll PM my address to ya, if I can figure out how to do it.

Afternoon Hoss,

Yes, it is your dealer's responsibility to contact St. Croix to get you the upgrade kit. If he will not do it for you try going to St. Croix's website at www.stcroixheat.com then go to dealer locater and type in your zip code and see if you can't find another dealer in your area that isn't too busy to take care of you even if you have to install it your self..cptnrrr

Guess it don't matter who SHOULD do it. It's MY responsibility. Want it done, I'll figure out how to GET it done, always been that way. Thanks for the help, maacac. And thanks for the input, cptnrr

Hoss,

I think the letter I sent you had St. Croix phone numbers. I am sure your power of persuasion can get them to send the kit directly to you!!!!

My dealer answered the phone on the third ring, today, said he'd just gotten some of the refit kits, along with the info you sent, maacac, and is gonna send one right out to me. I can install it myself. Just need to send the old parts back to him. We'll see how it works out.

Hoss

I am glad you were able to get the kit. When my dealer installed mine he also replaced the cleaning motor. Mine was so jammed and would not turn that it cut grooves into the shaft on the motor. You may want to check that out. Also after the kit was installed I got the flashing #4 light and it shut down. This is the new safety error, that is part of the kit, that is triggered if the burn pot does not rotate. It did this a total of 2 times and they have now replaced the logic board. So far so good now.

RTP, don't go jumping the gun, here. My dealer SAID he is gonna send it right out to me. He SAID 4 months ago that he's gonna send me the copy of the invoice, as well, since I never got one when I got the furnace, and I've called every 2-3 weeks to get him to send it.. I DO have the credit card statement w/ the charge on it, but that's it, and the freight slip for "1 pallet". Bought it online, dealer is 300 mi. away. Don't expect much dealer support, just want the stuff it needs. Love the furnace, been (knock up a pellet) trouble free all winter, keepin' the house toasty. I knew going in that I'd be pretty much on my own with this, but used to that. Had a lot of GREAT input from some people on the forum. It's a new model, not surprised if a few bugs show up, the way things go. Anyway, starting to ramble here, must be bedtime. Will let ya know if parts show up.
