I have decided now is the time to buy my 4-5 tons for 2nd pellet stove winter. I had burned NEWP (good but lots of clinkers) and Pennington (crap)in my 1st season.

Here are my best choices:

LG Granules $264.90/ton

Barefoot $279.00/ton

Lignetics $289.00/ton

Thanks for your input.

I have not burned any of those, but if my memory serves me, the average review for the pellets you listed are ironically in the same order. Lignetics probably gets the better reviews and they are listed as the most expensive ( given the prices you list). Next would be the Barefoot, then followed by the Granules.

Again though, I can't speak from experience.

My choice's would be the Barefoot 1st, Lignetics 2nd and LG's 3rd.

Both the Barefoots and the Lignetics are close, But I get more heat out of the Barefoots. Both burn very clean!

Ditto

I'd go with the Barefoots. I've been burning them for 4 years now and they've always had consistent quality.
They burn hot and clean.

none are good at that price, NO WAY HOSE A

If you have to spend that kind of cash! At least get the best bang(heat) for the buck. Some of use have no choice and Need to burn pellets!

I do understand that we all need cheap pellets. Next week arcade lumber will have dry creek for 235 a ton. At Jim's 5 star they are 230 a ton and 15 a ton to deliver.<< These are Michigan hardwoods.

Woodsman, I agree that we ALL need cheap pellets, but we ALL don't live where you are, and don't have access to cheaper pellets. And the same goes for fuel oil, propane, etc. Those are higher here, so even though we have to pay higher prices for pellets, they are still (usually) cheaper per BTU.

For me, even if the price per btu is the SAME as HHO, I'd still burn pellets....I don't want to give the Middle East even one penny more than I have to, and I'd like to use a renewable resource as much as I can afford. But once that price goes higher, I'll be forced to use the oil.

Your lucky to be in an area that has cheaper pellets available....we don't have that "luxury".

After having spent several winters with a low thermostat to try and afford the heating oil, our family relished the comfort and warmth of our pellet stove this winter. I have 3 small kids under 6 and could not put up with bundling them in several layers inside my home for another winter season.

I'd rather pay a few bucks more (assuming oil doesn't go up - bet anyone??) to have my family warm and not put $$$$ in the pockets of dictators and middle east millionaires.

Thanks to everyone for the input, I will be ordering 5-6 tons of Barefoots today. This will hopefully allow me to join the Pellet Pig Club.

Very good choice, I'm sure you will be pleased with them. Also don't be surprised if you have to drop the stoves heat setting down a little. Your going to get more heat from these pellets compared to the NEWP's. The smaller pellet size(length) allows more pellets to be feed into the burn pot. Not many pellets are longer than 3/4 of an inch.

Keep warm!

Glad to hear you were finally warm this past winter. And as for membership in the Pellet pigs, that 5-6 tons will get you in, for sure.

Thanks Pyro!

I found out that the dealer with the Lignetics and Barefoots was only promising June or July delivery. So I found a local store with NEWP pellets at $270 and immediate delivery and bought 6 tons. After being stuck with crappy replacement pellets this past winter, and reading horror stories on this board and elsewhere about people getting shafted on their order I went with the sure choice. (I had burned NEWP-1 ton-this year and liked them)

I am now a happy pellet pig!

I am now a happy pellet pig!

I burned 3 tons of NEWP last winter, and had no issues. Never had a clinker, and they seemed to feed well, and make good heat. The 4 tons of Cleanfires I got from PelletSales yesterday are supposed to be re-bagged NEWP, so I'm a happy camper.

Bought them at my local Agway here in Gardner, MA. Delivered them yesterday and they look great in my garage. Piled 6 tons on 4 pallets to save space!

you know, I hear very different opinions on the NEWP brand, some people like them and others say it creates lots of clinkers and hate them.......
I remember burning a bag in my englander but cannot remember about the clinkers and the overall performance for sure.

Any englander owner out there with feedback on the NEWP?

I burned NEWP's for several years in my Quad. Never had anything bad to say. The place I got them from closed so I had to use a different pellet house. They didn't carry them, So I had to use other brands.

If I could get them cheap enough, I'd burn them. They are a good overall pellet!

I have 3 tons of NEWP coming tomorrow. I did pretty good on them this year but depending on the prices next year, I think I'll check out some of the ones on that list you provided in the other thread. After discovering BT this year, I found that they have quite a few brands to look at.

ditto on the brand options they have.
I finally talked to them today and put an order for 3 tons of NEWP, delivery May 22 ..!!! wow

Ditto here too!

Impressed with there selection and prices. I just took a ride there on my lunch break. There only 10 minutes from where I work. I picked up 2 bags of ACP's to try this weekend. Hard to beat $235/ton.

They have many brands there that aren't listed on the site either. I saw Premier and Rocky Mountain(didn't have alot of them). I didn't have to much time to play, and they were unloading a Tractor trailer full of pellets. Also had another in the Street waiting to get in the yard. I'll email Debi to see how much the Premiers are and If they will get any more Rockies and how much.

I only wished they would do the storage for you like CTpellet. I will get what I can fit in the basement and back shed. Then I will either rumage for the last ton. Or just get it from CTpellet and have him store it. I am just nervous that the prices will go way over $300.00 in the fall.

jay, can you check the bag of the ACP and maybe have an overall check for fines/dust and color/smell of the pellet?

Here is the reply from Debi at BT.
The Premier is for our wholesale division and Rocky Mountain was dropped off for us to check out. We do not stock them because we have the Spruce Pointe at this time.

Have a sparkling day.

Wonder how you can buy from the wholesale division??? HMMMM.
