Can anyone tell me where to get a firepot gasket?

I need to get a firepot gasket for my older model Mt. Vernon. I found one online but they want $16.00 to ship it UPS ground which I refuse to pay for. The thing weighs maybe 2 oz. and they quote shipping at 2 lbs.! I'm not going to smear their name on here but that's ridiculous! I'm really getting tired of this crap. Excuse my frustration.
 
If I remember correctly that was just a rope gasket on there. If that's true than you can buy the gasket at any stove shop. They generally carry several different sizes. If you're not sure what size it is, bring the old one with you and match it up.
 
The door gasket is a rope gasket but the burnpot has a white fiberglass gasket that lays flat.

You can pickup a piece of the white material from your plumbing supplier, I believe they call it Lynn sheet, that is used to make gaskets for boilers and furnaces. It's about $2 per square foot.
 
Self sticking window tape gasket (the grey type). Used it myself as a fix, holds up better and is alot cheaper. Probably under a buck for what you need.
 
Luhrs ace hardware in PA. 570-296-7012. I just ordered the same gasket and the door tadpole gasket. The firepot was $10 and the door $39 I think. Very nice people to deal with and they only charged me what the shipping cost them. I have driven out to them before to pick up a snap disk and have to say they are the nicest people to deal with.

Speaking of the tadpole gasket, Is there supposed to be any gasket along the bottom of the door? The guy I bought the stove from had replaced the door gasket but it only goes along the top and sides. There is a gap along the bottom edge of the door. I've been running the stove all winter and just now noticed that. It looks like it's supposed to be that way since there's no channel along the bottom edge for the gasket to seat.
 
Mt Vernon's serial # 1777854 and below were the original style with the gasket along the bottom. 1777855 has the air wash on the bottom (gasket on top). If there is a gasket all the way around you will find your window will black up quickly. You should be able to buy a pack of 10' of tadpole gasket for $50, enough to do a Mt Vernon door 2 times and a Santa fe/Castile 3 times.

Thank you. That gives me more peace of mind. I was thinking the firebox had to be air tight for some reason. The more I tinker on this stove the more I find that nothing is air tight like the convection blower housing where the OAK hooks up. It's just stamped steel and has gaps all around it.
 
I would say the gasket is 3/4" +or- and it has a "tail" connected which adheres to the glass. Hence the name tadpole gasket. Or are you talking about the firepot gasket? Which would only be about an 1/8" thick.
