Maine Wood Pellets Co specs

The last I read on them is, they use bark in there pellets. They are not thought of in Maine, as a good pellet. In fact they are the lowest priced in my area.

I would suggest you try a few bags first before buy a ton or more, maybe your stove can handle them.

To be considered premium, There is a spec for ASH and so on, But I don't see one for BTU value!

I thought that it was a requirement for the BTU value to be on the bag and checked the PFI specs and found this. "It is required to print the mean higher
heating value in BTU per pound as well as the ash content on the fuel bag label"

I don't know why there are several pellets with no value on the bag or listed at there site. Even some of the big names have drop the value from bags and website's.

What gives?

The Maine Woods pellets should only be used for traction on icy steps!

when your income drops to the bottom of the food chain, you buy what you can afford...guess what i'm using this year?

Last year I paid $5.75 a bag for eastern embers at Pete's Stove &Hearth;in Kensington, PEI. Maine Woods was being sold as an "Ultra Premium" at a feed store at Ross's Corner for $7.00 a bag. Needless to say, I stayed with the eastern embers. I've burned them in my Meridian and my Castille in Maine, and my St. Croix Afton Bay on PEI with the same good results in all stoves.
I have to add that I have yet to find a pellet that burns as good as NEWP in my stoves.

There are other options in that price point. Trust me I am not working at full capacity right now and $10 per ton difference is not going make a difference over several months- I would rather eat Mac and Cheese an extra day or two a week (using powdered milk and water) than burn Maine pellets. They are crap.

There are other options in that price point. cheapest around for me...i am 11 miles from the mill and can buy them for 225 a ton. been unemployed since dec 08, so the good stuff is not an option this year(doing the BEST i can for the family).

also, trust me....i know about sacrifice...you ever eat a package of saltines to fill the hole so your kids can have the healthy stuff? believe me, its a rant you dont want to hear...i know sacrifice.

The Latest Maine Woods Report looked good. .58% ash content and 8,200 btu per pound. Compared to other maine pellets they look comparable. The definition of a premium pellet is to be at least less then 1% ash content. I know Maine Woods has a bad rep but people should at least try one or two bags to see the difference. How can a company survive without changing. I sell maine woods along with other brands so i know directly how everyone feels in the market. Any questions please let me know.

i just hauled and put away 3 ton of mwp's for my dad...they did indeed look very good. last year, we both burned mwp's all season(from the worst batch, to the improved ones) and we had no problems. the worst of it was excessive ash, but, being a former wood burner,i didnt mind the extra cleaning(i clean thoroughly every week anyhow).

this year i had planned on using mwp's again regardless...now with no job and unable to find another that pays equivilant to or mare than un-enjoyment, i have to resort to fuel assistance from good ol' state of maine.they do handle pellets, so i keep my fingers crossed.heck...i even checked into employment at mwp...but same story as everywhere else.not hiring or just now bringing people back from layoff.

thanks for the positive re-enforcement...pretty sad , but i will do what i have to to see that my family has what they need. its hard some days when there isnt enough for all of us, but i am a big boy, as you can see in my pic, and i can stand to miss a few...but i will be damned if my wife and kids will.i either go hungry or eat saltines ,plain as that.

The last ton I burned last year was Maine woods. No clinkers, very little ash and good heat. The were way better than the energex which were full of clinkers and would cause the burn pot to over flow and go out.

I paid $235 a ton which was $50 a ton less than the NEWP and $40 a ton less than the Energex.

jay...thanks , it means alot.i try to keep a positive outlook every day for my families sake. i dont let them see the worst of it, that comes when they are all gone.i was talking to a guy today , who said the same as you, i can only hope. work called and said to hang in there, i would be the first called back.

i have sold everything i dont use or need, drained the checking and savings, and used up the retirement fund , just to keep from losing the house. its not much, but its a dry roof over our heads, and a place to call home. i still pray every day, things will come around soon.

Have not tried them this year, just find it funny there the only pellets stuck in every Irving Convenience store around here at $7/Bag,i don,t care how good they are, thats too high for a low end Pellet.Don,t like Eastern Embers either,Shaw Brick should stick to making Bricks in my opinion,not Pellets.$5.79/Bag is still best bang for your Buck on the LG's. BTW for those ranting down on the EnergeX, just curious if your dislike is the EnergeX(softwood) Pensylvania, or the EnergeX(Hardwood)Quebec plant, as i burned a pallet of the Hardwood last year and didn,t mind them, good heat but extremely dirty.

I bought 4 tons in the spring (unfortunately after I started reading this forum). I can tell by how they are burning so far it's going to be a long winter with a lot of cleaning the stove. I've seen others on here saying they have been improved but definitely recommend trying a few bags before taking the plunge. Next year I won't - it doesn't matter what the claims are.

Penn is hardwood and Canada softwood.

If you didn't like Eastern Embers...you are really gonna hate Maine Woods....
They really shouldn't be considered premium quality...

Grabbed a fresh off the truck Bag of Maine Woods last nite, just to give them a fair shot,gee's thats quite a contract they have landed to supply all the Canadian tire stores this year.Prob more canadian Tire stores then Home Depot stores.

you should be surprised how much heat they give.......
