I plumbed in my dual 1" pipes and went to start up my Taco 0014 and it won't prime? I can hear it surging but it won't push the water enough to get it going? I did not put in a back flow preventer above the pump. By putting in the back flow, will this help the pump prime? This is an OWB open system setup. The OWB is 165' from the house and I located the pump inside at the lowest point in the system to help with any possible cavitation.

If you hooked up your fill line from your water service you can use the pressure of your house to force the air bubbles out with the added pressure. Shut off one line at the boiler and force water one way in the line, then shut off the other and move the water the other way. Another way is to start and stop the pump multiple times to try and move the bubble. Air bubbles can be a pain to get out.

Most circulators aren't designed to self-prime, their mission is to, well - circulate water that's already in the pipe. sdrobertson has you on the right track.

Somewhere in every loop I've ever done is a purge tee set up. This is nothing more than a ball valve between two tees with boiler drains in them. You can purge just about anything with a garden hose and that piping arrangement.

Inside the house I put a boiler drain at the bottom of my supply/return manifolds. I hooked the garden hose to the supply and opened up the drain on the return. Alot of air purged out. I then realized that my previous "plumber" never did this with the original 0013 at the boiler. I'm wondering if My previous cavitation problem was due to air being in the system from the beginning last season? Oh well, the dual lines are in and I cleaned up the the previous install by removing over a dozen 1" 90* and other wasted piping.
