Some Jotul stoves are tested and approved for open door fire viewing. Check your manual (or online manual at www.jotul.us) under the accessories section. If one is not listed, it's not approved.

If you were going to put a screen in a stove that was not listed to be burned in that manner (which I do NOT recommend) I would try burning the stove with the door open for an hour or two and check for smoke spillage and overheating before getting something custom built.

I think you think you want a screen but I think you will not want one once you get burning...

I have a screen for my F400 but have not really even used it. In addition, the screen in burn tends to let some smoke puff out here and there.

Of course you could fab one up if you wanted. Head to a Jotul dealer and buy a screen for the most similar stove and modify it if necessary.

Even though my Oslo (still) isn't in, I was all for getting a screen before we bought it. Now I know I won't use it - though we do have another fireplace...

What was my point - who knows?

Don't have a Jotul now, but did years ago. The issue shouldn't be I want to look at the fire. To do that you can download a very realistic image from the net. That is the only advantage to operating with the door open. The downsides are many. Loss of draft control, over firing, smoke in the house, etc., etc.

If you want to compromise the operation of the stove, you would be better served to replace the stove for the view.

I don't think it's such a good idea if your stove wasn't designed to burn with a screen. I've burned my Oslo for about one full season, and I did use the screen last April during the shoulder season maybe 4 times with small loads. I got just enough radient heat to take the chill out of the room, basically your turning the stove into a coventional fireplace and it sending alot of air up the stack. It's just not very efficiant.

Speaking of your Oslo. What's the deal? I haven't seen any updates on your install in quite a long time.
