Concerning this thread:
https://www.hearth.com/econtent/index.php/forums/viewthread/49838/

I did not intend to get folks angry and I apologize to those that were offended by my posts.

Just looked at that post and I was not offended at all.. We all have our opinions and trust me I have seen many negatives on my old stove and she is still going strong for me... If someone is that easily offended they should not be here or online for that matter lol..

Hey, not offended, people (me included) are can be particular about their stove - that's really our problem. If you had come in with questions about how to better operate the Oslo, there would have been so many people jumping over themselves to help. The Jotul is a well-loved stove for good reason - it does have its quirks, but I figure most stoves do, especially when you start talking EPA and improved efficiency. I would urge you to give the Jotul a little longer - it's a great looking stove, and performs excellently in most situations.

At the end of the day though, if it doesn't work out, so be it.

And it was big of you to apologize - a lot of people wouldn't have.

Sometimes the truth hurts - if in fact it is truth. Your reality may be different than the next users. I love the ash pan on my IR, some think they are a useless attribute. My rambling is just a strange way to show a difference in perception. I followed the thread and personally don't feel offended (but then of course I don't own one of the stoves ;-) )

But - this is a very active site, visited by tons of people daily. Many hidden behind the curtains lurking for info. The approach to a post should be considered before hitting the "post" button.

Welcome aboard - this place is full of great people.

IMO, the only questionable thing about the original post (and we see it around all the time, so it certainly ain't just you), is the declarative, authoritative tone of it. "The Jotul is a bad stove. Period." sort of thing. It's simply not true, so statements like that can sometimes rub folks the wrong way. Nothing whatever wrong with something like, "I'm not happy with my Jotul, and I'll tell you why...". Anyway, if one took the time to sift through the irrelevant stuff that ensued, there actually was a modicum of useful information exchanged. Don't worry about it. :) Rick

I read the thread and I'm completely impartial on this issue --- it just sounded like you were quite frustrated and all that really happened was that other readers in turn were frustrated BY the tone... Just as you were particularly disappointed because you spent a big chunk of cash on what you thought should be a top of the line stove, those other owners who love their stoves that they spent equal or maybe way more money on were insulted at the implication that their stoves were not what they were cracked up to be. So if it follows that they all wasted their money IS kinda like telling them they are wrong and stupid, and folks more took issue with THAT.

I don't like seeing people get all jumped on and haven't seen a whole lot of that around here. Folks just had their feathers ruffled there for a minute. But it's done right?

Your frustration was showing! I certainly understand that as I have experienced plenty of that myself with this stove but I keep reading & hoping the lightbulb will go on with someone's input. The sad part is being called stupid and being made fun of when you are asking for help. I hope I never see those type of responses again from anyone on here as many of those same people have posted threads in the past with questions and frustrations. Most of the people on here have been very helpful to me and I appreciate their responses - just hope they can remember their manners. Hope you return with more posts.

tickbitty - oh, you are good! That's exactly what it was!

I have had heard that little wispering in my own mind. The little nagging voice that says " You paid 2x as much as you needed to...for half the cost, another stove would have accomplished the same purpose". Oh, no wait - that was my husbands voice, at least until I banned him from repeating the same ever again.

Anyway, I think you hit it on the head as to why some hackles went up.

croghanite, Wood burners are a rare breed. They love their stoves. I enjoy this forum despite the fact that most of you burn EPA stoves and often don't have much good to say about the old ones. I started burning wood long before the EPA stoves, and still burn the same stove. I have learned everything about it. I know it like the back of my hand and it never surprises me. I have learned to control the heat output and still not creosote my flue even when the temp is marginally cold. Or I can crank it up and heat my house at any temp. I have never had a flue fire. I would like to have a new EPA stove some day, but as so many have said on this forum and this thread, everyone is different and entitled to their opinion. That is why there are tons of brands out there, and most are loved by someone. That is why people often get defensive I guess. Hang in there. We are all in it together. ;-)

People have some real identity issues if they get offended by a comment like that. I sure as hell wouldn't get offended if someone said my stove was bad....It might just be bad. It does have design issues. I think anything that has design issues can be called bad. Companies should test their products better. I/we/whoever should not have to work around their design flaws. If I spent 2-4k on something, it better work. Hell, I get mad when my $50 shoes fall apart after 6 months..Or maybe I am cheap.

To the OP, don't sweat it. Say what you want as long as you don't attack someone. It's your money and your wood space heater. A little debate fosters creative thinking and eventually broadens people's perspectives.

Crog . . . no harm done . . . I'm glad you are sticking around for a bit . . . different opinions are what makes this forum interesting and dynamic . . . even if they're wrong. ;) :) And yes, I'm kidding.

As others have mentioned folks get passionate about purchases -- especially expensive purchases -- no one wants to buy a $15,000 car and then be told that it's junk and no good . . . but if the truth be told I suspect some folks here also owe you an apology as no one likes to be called stupid or a troll . . . and so just in case no one has done so, on behalf of hearth.com I want to apologize for some of the responses which were not up to par.

As folks have said, usually folks get their hackles raised up by the way something is written. Sometimes it's just in the way the words are put to paper (or on-line in this case) as you can ask the same question or state an opinion one way and folks will agree or disagree politely and in another way they get upset and bent out of shape. Sometimes it's a case where one tries to convey emotion, but words are emotionless and so in some posts I have read in the past someone's attempt at humor or sarcasm is seen much differently.

So, in any case, you are more than welcome here and I hope you keep contributing and stating your opinion (although for the record I like the Oslo's ash pan, dislike the ash dumping out on the front lip, but value the Oslo's reliability and think it's the best stove ever invented ;) . . . Ok, maybe that was a little over the top :) )

As others have mentioned it sounds like you might have been frustrated with some aspects of the Oslo and felt that for the cost it should have been better . . . the truth is (as I see it at least) others can look at the same product and same issues and feel that the price point makes it a good value . . . it really is what you value. For example, the ash issue is really not much of an issue for me as I value the Jotul reputation for dependability and was willing to pay more for that reliability . . . even if it meant a slight inconvenience for me. Another person however, could very legitimately feel that for the price, this stove should have had this issue resolved by now after being on the market for several years.

And so I have to say I love you all . . . well, maybe just like you guys a lot . . . even you TFDChief . . . burning that old smoke dragon . . . of course I have to like you . . . you're a brother . . . so gather round the Oslo (with its faults), join hands and join me in singing . . . Kumbaya My Lord . . . Kumbaya . . . Kumbaya My Lord . . . Kumbaya . . . OK, TFDChief . . . it's all you . . . sing us a few solo verses. ;) :)

See that's why I don't understand why people buy those Japanese cars... And it is totally obvious that if your stove is not a Vogelzang, it's crap... Who needs a Blaze Krap or a Blotel. My Vogelzang was made in China, where real things are made. I can heat 5k square feet to 85 degrees with one spit with -50f wind chill.

<------ New to this site, and all I have to say is.....

I love you man !!!!

Sometimes it's not right from wrong, but just different. I LOVE THIS SITE !!!
